In some embodiments, an electronic device presents representations of messaging conversations. In some embodiments, an electronic device indicates which messages are replies to other messages in a messaging conversation. In some embodiments, an electronic device creates and presents links (e.g., rich links) to contacts in a messaging conversation (e.g., 'mentions'). In some embodiments, an electronic device presents indications of messages that are replies to other messages. In some embodiments, an electronic device presents options to create a link (e.g., a rich link) to contacts in a messaging conversation (e.g., “mentions”) using a suggested entry user interface element.

User interfaces for messages

Aspects of the subject technology include obtaining, by a first device associated with a first user account, one or more item-specific public keys of one or more devices associated with a second user account and generating a data structure representing the one or more devices associated with the second user account based on the one or more item-specific public keys. Aspects may also include providing an identifier of the data structure to a server for association with the item and generating an invitation for the second user account to access the item. Aspects may further include providing the invitation to a second device of the one or more devices associated with the second user account to provide the second device with access to the item via the server based on at least a portion of the data structure and a respective item-specific public key of the second device.

Proving membership using cryptographic identities

The subject disclosure provides systems and methods for providing privacy-preserving social attribution for electronic devices. For example, when information is received from a contact of a user at the user's electronic device, various applications at the electronic device may later display the received information. It can be desirable to attribute the displayed information received from the contact to that contact, without exposing identifying information of the contact to the displaying application. Aspects of the subject technology include a system process that generates an image including contact information, that can be rendered in a user interface of an application, without providing the image or the contact information to the application.

Privacy-preserving sharing attribution for electronic devices

A device implementing a system for sharing groups of files within a messaging application includes a processor configured to provide, within the messaging application, a user interface element for sending at least one file to a participant in an active message thread of the messaging application, the at least one file having been determined to be relevant to the participant. The processor is further configured to, responsive to receiving a selection of the user interface element: transmit, to a server, a request to store the at least one file in association with a shared storage area, and to transmit, via the messaging application, a message to the participant in the active message thread, the message comprising information for accessing the at least one file associated with the shared storage area.

Sharing content in a messaging application

A messaging system includes a first messaging app on a first device and a second messaging app, on a second device, that can exchange messages (e.g. text messages, etc.), and the second messaging on can transmit content from a second extension app that operates with the second messaging app to the first messaging app that operates with a first extension app. The content can be opaque to the messaging app, but can be processed by the extension apps to display live, dynamic content in message bubbles in a message transcript of a conversation.

A method is provided that includes receiving, by a first process executing on an electronic device and from a second process executing on the electronic device, a request for links to content items that are associated with the second process. The method further includes obtaining, by the first process and from a link index, a link to a content item associated with the second process, wherein the link index is locally stored on the electronic device and the link index comprises links to content items communicated via a third process executing on the electronic device. The link to the content item obtained from the link index is provided by the first process for presentation by the second process, wherein selection of the link causes the second process to present the content item.

Syndication of links to content

Improved messaging applications are described that use a first set of software to test rendering of a message, and if the test is successful the message is allowed to be presented. In one embodiment, a first set of software can attempt to test the renderability of a message and if the test is successful, the message can be stored in a message database. In one embodiment, the first set of software operates in a separate sandbox from a sandbox for a messaging application which displays the message. The first set of software can operate in a first process which is different than a process in which the messaging application runs.
