Eyeglass lenses having a plurality of image-generating cells have a lens body formed of an optically-transmissive material, the lens body having an arcuate convex first surface, the lens body having an arcuate concave second surface, a reflective layer embedded within the lens body between the first and second surfaces, the reflective layer having an array of facets, and each facet of the reflective layer having a planar surface. Each of the facets may be a polygon. The reflective layer may be optically transmissive. The lens body may have a forward portion between the first surface and the reflective layer. The forward portion may have a plurality of cells, each cell being coextensive with an associated facet, each cell having the form of a plano-convex lens and mirror assembly adapted to receive parallel incoming rays and to focus the rays at a focal point beyond the first surface of the lens.

A diffuse reflecting optical construction that does not rely on special molds or tooling of the prior art in order to create a critical diffuse reflecting surface feature of the optical construction. An atomized spray method is employed to apply a hardenable transparent liquid polymer layer to the surface of a prefabricated base optical substrate. The polymer layer forms beads on the surface of the prefabricated base optical substrate, resulting in the formation of a surface having a random and continuous series of peaks and valleys thereon that form the diffuse reflecting surface feature. The prefabricated base optical substrate having the diffuse reflecting polymer layer thereon combined with additional optical layers forms a transparent diffuse reflecting optical construction that can be used in the manufacture of optical lenses, windows, and transparent films that reflect light in a diffuse manner while transmitting light in a substantially undistorted manner.

Diffuse reflecting optical construction

A transparent multi-layer optical construction that reflects light in a diffuse manner and transmits light in an undistorted manner. The optical construction can be made as a sunglass lens or as a thin film to be used as window film. The multi-layer optical construction is, in part, a combination of surface form and surface texture combined with a reflective medium and a scratch resistant hard coating.

The present invention offers vast improvements over previously disclosed lens constructions in that it provides for both improved reflectivity and improved optical quality.

Uniform diffuse omni-directional reflecting lens

An improved method for creating a multi-layered optical lens structure which appears, from an observer's point of view, to have a brushed metal finish, matte finish, decorative pattern, image or logo on the surface of a sunglass lens, but which is optically transparent from a wearer's point of view. The present method for creating a lens structure does not require the use of epoxies or adhesives and allows the lens structure to be made as a polarized lens. The present method offers vast improvements over previously disclosed methods in that it simplifies assembly of the lens structure, allows for greater repeatability, and significantly improves the optical clarity of the final lens structure.

An improved structure for providing a decorative pattern over the surface of sunglasses, the structure combining a positive decorative pattern on a first layer, a reflective layer, and a third layer incorporating a negative decorative pattern. The decorative pattern is readily apparent to an observer, but the negative pattern cancels the image for the wearer who then sees only a uniform color or hue that does not interfere with his vision or cause an unpleasant distraction.
