A system for context-aware application group management in a container deployment environment is presented. The system includes a memory storing one or more processor-executable routines and a processor. The processor is configured to execute the one or more processor-executable routines to receive an instance identifier (ID) corresponding to an application group based on a re-registration request for the application group by the user; identify an instance corresponding to the instance ID from an instance database and a context based on the instance from a context database; generate a re-registration token comprising a context ID corresponding to the context, and initiate a re-registration workflow to create a new instance of the application group based on the re-registration token and the context ID. A related method is also presented.

System and method for context-aware application management in container deployment environments

A resource allocation map generator generates a resource allocation map for a current data backup and/or restore based on a mathematical model, real-time operating data corresponding to operating states of one or more resources, and historical data corresponding to data back-up and restore of one or more historical datasets. A resource allocation recommender generates a recommendation for resource allocation for the current data backup and/or restore based on the resource allocation map and a threshold value corresponding to a particular resource. A resource allocator dynamically initiates a change in resource allocation based on the generated recommendation.

The system includes a backup controller configured to access an application group token and generate a corresponding backup token. The system further includes a backup module configured to initiate a backup based on the backup token and create a corresponding recovery point on a backup server. The system further includes a recovery access token module configured to access a recovery access token for a determined recovery point. The system further includes a recovery controller configured to generate a recovery token corresponding to the determined recovery point based on the recovery access token, and a recovery module configured to initiate a recovery of the application group from the backup server in a destination cluster based on the recovery token. A system for reference-aware application recreation in a container deployment environment is presented. The system includes a reference detection module configured to detect and store one or more reference paths corresponding to each resource type of a plurality of resources in the container deployment environment; a resource ordering module configured to generate a recreation sequence by ordering the plurality of resources based on corresponding references at the reference paths, such that a referenced resource is recreated before the referring resource; and an application recreation module configured to recreate an application based on the recreation sequence. A related method is also presented.

System and method for reference-aware application recreation in container deployment environments

A method for sharing data blocks in a hierarchical file system in a storage server includes allocating a plurality of data blocks in the file system, and sharing data blocks in the file system, without using a persistent point-in-time image, to avoid duplication of data blocks. A method for identifying data blocks that can be shared includes computing a fingerprint for each of multiple data blocks to be written to a storage facility and storing the fingerprint with information identifying the data block in an entry in a set of metadata. The set of metadata is used to identify data blocks which are duplicates.

Methods, program products, and systems implementing adaptive data transmission are disclosed. A universal data collector can act as an intermediary between a log producer and a log processor. The universal data collector can be connected to the log producer through a first, reliable network. The universal data collector can be connected to the log processor through a second, less reliable network. The universal data collector can perform a multi-phase commit of data to ensure that the log data are saved by the log processor. The universal data collector can smooth the data transmission from the universal data collector to the log processor through a network, including adaptively buffering the log data according to available network bandwidth of the network.

A method and apparatus for backing up a computer system. A backup is provided of a data stored on a first computer by the first computer generating a dump stream. The dump stream is transmitted to a second computer, the second computer uses the dump stream to maintain a file system copy of the data. One or more snapshots of the file system of the second computer are stored on a backup computer, the snapshots providing a backup of the data stored on the first computer.

Method and apparatus for identifying and eliminating duplicate data blocks and sharing data blocks in a storage system

Methods, program products, and systems implementing dynamic parsing rules are disclosed. Log data from a variety of log producers can be parsed using parsing rules to generate information about an information system. The parsing rules can include system parsing rules and custom parsing rules. A state machine can be used to detect conflicts between various parsing rules. A central server can distribute the system parsing rules and custom parsing rules to one or more remote servers for distributed processing. In a hierarchical parsing system, a first tier parser can be used to identify types of sources generating the log data. Log data from each type of log source can be sent to a second tier parser that corresponds to the type of log source.

Dynamic parsing rules

Methods, program products, and systems implementing random access data compression are disclosed. Data can be stored in a data structure in compressed or non-compressed form. The data structure can include a header block, one or more data blocks, and one or more index blocks. Each data block can include data compressed using different compression technology. The header block can include searchable references to the data blocks, which can be located in the data structure after the header block. The searchable references permit non-sequential access to the data blocks. The data blocks can be organized independent of a file system structure. The header block can additionally include references to the one or more index blocks, which can expand the references in the header block.

Random access data compression

A system and method for managing data deduplication of a storage system utilizing persistent consistency point images (PCPIs). Once a target PCPI of a data transfer is generated, a backup management module of the storage system alerts a data deduplication module to begin deduplication of the data contained within the target PCPI. Once the deduplication procedure has been completed, the active file system of the storage system has been deduplicated, however, the target PCPI remains un-deduplicated. In response, the backup management module generates and exports a revised target PCPI. The previous target PCPI may then be deleted, thereby transitioning the exported PCPI's image of the state of the file system to a deduplicated state.

System and method for managing data deduplication of storage systems utilizing persistent consistency point images

An image-based backup backs up one or more snapshots of a volume without duplicating common data blocks. A backup engine receives a request to generate a backup image of a volume. In response to the request, the backup engine generates the backup image including data blocks and metadata describing attributes of the data blocks. The data blocks and the metadata arranged in the backup image in a same order as they were retrieved without imposing any additional ordering constraints on the data blocks and the metadata.

Saving multiple snapshots without duplicating common blocks to protect the entire contents of a volume

Image-based data restoration restores an entire image of a volume or selective files. A restore engine receives a request to restore data from a backup image that includes a plurality of data blocks and metadata describing attributes of the data blocks. In response to the request, the restore engine determines a restore mode. If it is determined to be a logical restore mode, the restore engine restores a file by retrieving the metadata associated with the file and the data blocks that are pointed to by the metadata. If it is determined to be an image restore mode, the restore engine restores an entire image of the volume by using the data blocks in the backup image without using the metadata.

In a system and method for updating a remote replicated destination file system snapshot with changes in a source file system snapshot, users and processes are redirected to a local exported snapshot of the replicated snapshot on the active file system on the destination before beginning the next update of the active file system's replicated snapshot. In this manner, an unstable replicated snapshot is not accessed. Indirection is introduced into inode lookup at the destination as the destination's active file system is being updated. The indirection can be based upon a snapshot ID that conforms to a latest exported snapshot ID.

System and method for redirecting access to a remote mirrored snapshot

An embodiment of the invention provides a traversal engine that traverses (walks) through metadata containers (e.g., inodes) in a file system and determines the metadata containers that have been modified (added, changed, deleted, or renamed) within a particular time interval. A modified metadata container corresponds to a data container (e.g., file or directory) that has been modified within the particular time interval. The traversal engine records, into a table, information about the modified metadata containers. The traversal engine also records, into the table, parent information corresponding to an immediate parent of a modified data container.
