A connection assembly () includes a base structure (); a backplane () coupled to the base structure (), the backplane () including a first circuit board (); and a tray module () configured to couple to the backplane (). The tray module () includes a tray body () including a second circuit board (); and a bridge member () to which the tray body () is moveably coupled. The tray body () moves relative to the backplane () while the bridge member () remains stationary relative to the backplane (). Managed connectivity components () on the second circuit board () remain connected to the first circuit board () even while the tray body () is pivoting relative to the backplane ().

Managed connectivity in optical distribution frame

One embodiment is directed to a method of reading RFID tags in an interconnection system comprising at least one port. The method comprises initiating a localized read transaction to read any RFID tag attached to a first connector and any RFID tag attached to a second connector inserted into the port. The method further comprises, as a part of the localized read transaction, reading any RFID tag configured to respond to a first type of RFID interrogation signal, wherein the first connector comprises an attached RFID tag that is configured to respond to the first type of RFID interrogation signal; and, as a part of the localized read transaction, reading any RFID tag configured to respond to a second type of RFID interrogation signal, wherein the second connector comprises an attached RFID tag that is configured to respond to the second type of RFID interrogation signal. Method and system for performing a single localized read transaction in which multiple RFID tags are read

One embodiment is directed to a system comprising a panel comprising a plurality of openings. The system is configured to selectively couple a panel contact for each opening to an RFID reader. The system further comprises a plurality of optical adapters. Each optical adapter comprises: at least one radio frequency identifier (RFID) antenna; at least one adapter contact that is electrically connected to the RFID antenna; and at least one conductor configured to electrically connect the adapter contact to respective one of respective panel contacts when the optical adapter is inserted into one of the openings of the panel. The RFID antenna of each connector is configured to be positioned near an RFID tag attached to the connector when the connector is inserted into the body of the optical adapter. The system is configured to selectively couple the RFID reader to each of the panel contacts. Other embodiments are disclosed.

RFID-enabled optical adapter for use with a patch panel

One embodiment is directed to a tray for use in a subrack of a rack. The tray comprises a printed circuit board configured so that a plurality of connections can be made at a plurality of positions on the printed circuit board, each of the plurality of connections involving at least one connector positioned on a patch side of the plurality of positions and the least one connector having a device associated therewith in which information is stored. The tray is configured so that either side of the positions can be used as the patch side. The tray is configured so that the devices associated with the connectors involved in making the connections at the patch side can be read via the tray. The devices associated with the connections can be implemented, for example, using RFID tags or connection point identifier (CPID) storage devices (such as EEPROMs).

Physical layer management (PLM) system for use with an optical distribution frame having trays with selectable patch side

A cable connection system () includes a coupling housing () defining at least a first port (); a printed circuit board () coupled to the coupling housing; and a communications component () sized to be received at the first port of the coupling housing. The printed circuit board () includes a light source (). At least an indication section () of the communications component () includes (e.g., is formed from or is coated with) a light transmissible material. A communications connection system includes an SC fiber optic connector including a storage device having memory configured to store physical layer information. The storage device also includes electrical contacts or an RFID antenna coil connected to the memory for transmitting information to a management system. The communications connection system also includes a fiber optic adapter module having one or more media reading interfaces. Each media reading interface is configured to read physical layer information stored on one of the fiber optic connectors received at the adapter module. Example media reading interfaces include electrical contacts and RFID readers.

Managed fiber connectivity systems

One embodiment is directed to a subrack comprising a backplate and at least one tray configured so that a plurality of connections can be made at a plurality of positions on the tray. Each of the plurality of connections involves at least one connector having information stored in a device associated therewith that can be read. The backplate and the tray are configured so that the tray can be selectively attached and removed from the backplate. The backplate and the tray are configured so that the devices associated with the connectors involved in making the connections can be read via the tray. The devices associated with the connections can be implemented, for example, using RFID tags or connection point identifier (CPID) storage devices (such as EEPROMs).

Physical layer management (PLM) system for use with an optical distribution frame in which trays can be selectively removed and re-attached

One embodiment is directed to an adapter comprising a coupling circuit configured so that a portable RFID reader can be positioned near a first part of the coupling circuit associated with a first side of the adapter in order to perform a localized read of both an RFID tag attached to a first connector inserted into a first jack of the adapter and an RFID tag attached to a second connector inserted into a second jack of the adapter, wherein the coupling circuit is used to enhance a read range of the portable RFID reader when performing the localized read. These embodiments can be used in the outside plant of a telecommunications network. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Localized reading of RFID tags located on multiple sides of a port from a single side using RFID coupling circuit and portable RFID reader

One embodiment is directed to a tray for use in a subrack of a rack, the tray comprising a printed circuit board configured so that a plurality of connections can be made at a plurality of positions on the printed circuit board. Each of the plurality of connections involves at least one connector having an RFID tag associated therewith. The tray further comprises a plurality of RFID antennas integrated into the printed circuit board, each the RFID antennas associated with a respective one of the positions. The printed circuit board is configured to localize a field emitted from each RFID antenna so that only the RFID tag associated with that RFID antenna is energized and read.

Physical layer management (PLM) system for use with an optical distribution frame using RFID antennas with localized fields

One embodiment is directed to an optical adapter comprising a body in which at least one connector can be inserted; at least one radio frequency identification (RFID) antenna and a visual indicator. The optical adapter further comprises at least one adapter contact that is electrically connected to the RFID antenna and the visual indicator; and a clip configured to electrically connect the adapter contact to a panel contact on a panel when the optical adapter is inserted into the panel and to mechanically hold the optical adapter in the panel. The RFID antenna is configured to be positioned near an RFID tag attached to the connector when the connector is inserted into the body of the optical adapter. Other embodiments are disclosed.
