Catalyst life in desulfurization of distillate hydrocarbon streams is predicted with the aid of a computer simulation which embodies an analytical kinetic model of a hydrodesulfurization reaction and a semi-empirical model for catalyst deactivation. The simulation specifies the decline of catalyst activity with time and a current reaction temperature required to maintain the initial catalyst activity. The useful life of the catalyst is considered to be the time required for catalyst activity in the simulated reaction to decline sufficiently from its initial level so that a predefined maximum reaction temperature is reached while maintaining a desired level of sulfur in the desulfurized product. The computer time needed to simulate the reaction is decreased by combining superior features of LOTUS 1-2-3 and FORTRAN language, such that input/output and graphic operations are implemented with LOTUS 1-2-3 and numerical calculations are executed in FORTRAN.

Catalyst life prediction in hydrodesulfurization

A hydrocracking process comprises the step of contacting a liquid hydrocarbon containing feed with a free hydrogen containing gas and a catalyst composition comprising a silica/titania on alumina support material which has been promoted with compounds of nickel, molybdenum, and preferably, also phosphorus. Preferably, the feed is a vacuum gas oil, and the production of middle distillates is maximized.

Hydrocracking catalyst for middle distillates

An additive comprising a mixture of at least one decomposable molybdenum compound selected from the group consisting of molybdenum dithiophosphates and molybdenum dithiocarbamates and at least one decomposable nickel compound selected from the group consisting of nickel dithiophosphates and nickel dithiocarbamates is mixed with a hydrocarbon-containing feed stream. The hydrocarbon-containing feed stream containing the additive is then contacted in a hydrofining process with a catalyst composition comprising a support selected from the group consisting of alumina, silica and silica-alumina and a promoter comprising at least one metal selected from Group VIB, Group VIIB and Group VIII of the Periodic Table. The introduction of the inventive additive may be commenced when the catalyst is new, partially deactivated or spent with a beneficial result occuring in each case.

Hydrofining composition

A catalyst composition comprises (a) alumina, (b) zinc titanate, (c) at least one compound of molybdenum, (d) at least one compound of at least one of nickel and cobalt, and (e) at least one compound containing phosphorus and oxygen. This catalyst composition is used for hydrotreating a liquid hydrocarbon-containing feed stream (such as a heavy oil) which contains compounds of nickel, vanadium and sulfur, under such conditions as to obtain a product having reduced levels of nickel, vanadium and sulfur.

Hydrotreating catalyst and process for its preparation

A process for hydrotreating substantially liquid hydrocarbon containing feed streams (particularly heavy oils) which also contain compounds of nickel, vanadium and sulfur employing a catalyst composition comprising alumina, at least one compound of titanium and at least one compound of molybdenum is prepared either by the steps of impregnating an alumina support material with an aqueous solution of at least one titanium compound, drying, impregnating the Ti-impregnated material with an aqueous solution of at least one molybdenum compound, drying and calcining; or by the steps of impregnating an alumina support material with an aqueous solution of at least one titanium compound and at least one molybdenum compound, drying and calcining.

Hydrofining process

Hydrofining process for hydrocarbon containing feed streams

An additive comprising a metal naphthenate selected from the group consisting of cobalt naphthenate and iron naphthenate is mixed with a hydrocarbon-containing feed stream. The hydrocarbon-containing feed stream containing the additive is then contacted in a hydrofining process with a catalyst composition comprising a support selected from the group consisting of alumina, silica and silica-alumina and a promoter comprising at least one metal selected from Group VIB, Group VIIB and Group VIII of the Periodic Table. The introduction of the inventive additive may be commenced when the catalyst is new, partially deactivated or spent with a beneficial result occuring in each case.

A composition of matter comprising alumina, at least one compound of nickel, at least one compound of zirconium and at least one compound containing phosphorus and oxygen is prepared by a process comprising the steps of impregnating an alumina-containing support material with an aqueous solution containing at least one nickel compound and at least one zirconium compound, drying, impregnating the Ni/Zr-impregnated material with an aqueous solution containing at least one P-O compound, drying and calcining. The composition of matter of this invention is useful as a catalyst for hydrotreating substantially liquid hydrocarbon-containing feed streams (particularly heavy oils) which also contain compounds of nickel, vanadium and sulfur.

Process for preparing a catalyst for the hydrofining of oil and catalyst

Hydrotreating catalyst and process

A process for hydrotreating substantially liquid hydrocarbon-containing feed streams (particularly heavy oils) which also contain compounds of nickel, vanadium and sulfur employing a catalyst composition comprising alumina, at least one compound of nickel, at least one compound of zirconium and at least one compound containing phosphorus and oxygen is prepared by a process comprising the steps of impregnating an alumina-containing support material with an aqueous solution containing at least one nickel compound and at least one zirconium compound, drying, impregnating the Ni/Zr-impregnated material with an aqueous solution containing at least one P-O compound, drying and calcining.

Catalytic hydrofining of oil

A composition of matter comprising alumina, at least one compound of titanium and at least one compound of molybdenum is prepared either by the steps of impregnating an alumina support material with an aqueous solution of at least one titanium compound, drying, impregnating the Ti-impregnated material with an aqueous solution of at least one molybdenum compound, drying and calcining; or by the steps of impregnating an alumina support material with an aqueous solution of at least one titanium compound and at least one molybdenum compound, drying and calcining. Hydrofining catalyst composition and process for its preparation

A composition of matter consisting essentially of alumina and at least one compound (preferably oxide) of yttrium and/or zirconium is provided and is employed as a catalyst in the hydrotreating of a substantially liquid hydrocarbon containing feed stream (particularly a heavy oil) which also contains compounds of nickel, vanadium and sulfur. The preferred preparation of the catalyst compositions of this invention comprises at least one impregnating step using a solution containing at least one aluminum compound, which is at least partially converted to aluminum oxide in a subsequent calcining step.

Catalyst for hydrofining of oil and process for preparing the catalyst

A catalyst composition is prepared by dissolving a suitable oxygen containing compound of a Group VIB metal (preferably Mo), a suitable compound of a Group VIII metal (preferably Ni) and phosphorous acid in water, mixing this solution with an alumina containing support material, and calcining this mixture. This catalyst composition is used primarily for hydrotreating of hydrocarbon feed stream, which contain nitrogen and sulfur impurities, particularly heavy cycle oils.
