Allyl carbamates are disclosed. The allyl carbamates are prepared by reacting an isocyanate with an allylic alcohol or alkoxylated allylic alcohol. Suitable isocyanates are selected from hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI), HDI biuret, dimer, HDI trimer, HDI allophanate, isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), IPDI trimer, IPDI allophanate, bis(isocyanatocyclohexyl)methane, and mixtures thereof. The allyl carbamates have at least two allyl functional groups per molecule. UV-curable and air-drying coatings formulated from the allyl carbamates show excellent chemical resistance and physical properties.

A water-dispersible polyurethane resin is disclosed. The resin comprises recurring units of an alkoxylated phenolic resin, a carboxylate-containing diol, and a multifunctional isocyanate. The resin, which can be neutralized, and/or chain-extended, is dispersed in water to form a polyurethane dispersion. Coatings derived from the polyurethane dispersions have excellent acid and chemical resistance.

A moisture-cure urethane composition is disclosed. The urethane is formulated from an NCO-terminated alkoxylated phenolic resin that has long oxyalkylene chains. It has greater than 70 wt % solids and has excellent resistance to acids, bases, and chemicals.

A multi-step process for producing DNT employing a mononitration step in a single liquid phase at an elevated temperature using a carefully controlled amount of water, followed by a phase separation step prior to dinitration of the MNT present in the resulting organic phase. The present invention relates to the preparation and use of novel polyurethane polyuretidione crosslinking agents in solvent and water borne coatings systems. These polyuretidione polyurethanes are characterized by their relatively low solution viscosity, and the ability to provide a relatively high crosslink density in the final, cured film, and thereby, coatings with the excellent physical properties and resistance to chemical and environmental exposure of known polyurethane systems without the potential for worker exposure to toxic isocyanates.
