A monolithic ceramic body can comprise a first portion comprising a plurality of pores defining an interconnected network of pores, and a second portion integrally formed with the first portion and defining at least a portion of a perimeter surface of the monolithic ceramic body, wherein the second portion can include at least one complementary engagement structure. In another embodiment, a porous ceramic assembly can comprise at least two of the monolithic ceramic bodies which are coupled to each other by a first complementary engagement structure and a second complementary engagement structure.

A method of forming a batch of shaped adsorbent particles may include applying a precursor mixture into a shaping assembly within an application zone to form a batch of precursor shaped adsorbent particles, drying the batch of precursor shaped adsorbent particles within the shaping assembly to form the batch of shaped adsorbent particles, and ejecting the batch of shaped adsorbent particles from the shaping assembly. The batch of shaped adsorbent particles may have a moisture content of at least about 20 wt. %.

A method of forming a shaped article includes forming a mixture which includes a titania hydrate pulp having a loss on ignition of from about 10 to 45 wt. %, a seed material comprising a titanium oxide, at least a portion of the titanium oxide being in a rutile form, and optionally a dispersion aid. The method includes forming the mixture into a shaped article and firing the shaped article. A shaped article suitable for use as a catalyst carrier is at least 90% titanium oxide, greater than 80% of the titanium oxide being in the rutile phase. The article has a surface area of at least 2.5 m/g and a mercury pore volume of greater than 0.15 cc/g.

The invention provides an improved ceramic packing element () suited to use as a bed limiter having a generally uniform cross-section in the length (l) direction with the basic shape of a bow-tie and having a plurality of through passages () parallel to the length dimension (L).
