Disclosed is a method for sealing and affixing a component assembly for an electrical lighting device to a glass lamp envelope. The assembly used in the process comprises the component, such as an electrode lead wire and a solder glass perform. The process is useful, for example, in hermetically sealing and affixing lamp components, such as electrical lead wires and exhaust tubulation, to a low pressure fluorescent discharge lamp envelope having phosphor coating already applied thereto. The present invention is particularly suitable for lamp envelope made of borosilicate glass having a CTE from 0 to 300&#xb0; C. in the range of 30&#x2013;45&#xd7;10&#xb0; C..

Sealing lighting device component assembly with solder glass preform by using infrared radiation

Disclosed are a component assembly for an electrical lighting device and method for sealing the same. The assembly comprises the component, such as an electrode lead wire, and a solder glass perform. The component assembly is useful, for example, in hermetically sealing and affixing lamp components, such as electrical lead wires and exhaust tubulation, to a low-pressure fluorescent discharge lamp envelope having phosphor coating already applied thereto without causing damage to other lamp components sensitive to high temperature. Component assembly with solder glass preform for lighting device and sealing process

The present invention is directed towards a thin, flat glass envelope having an enclosed, internal channel and a molded edge for affixing attachments directly to the glass envelope. Suitable attachments include filters, i.e., diffusion, polarizing, glare reducing, brightness enhancing, liquid crystal display screens and masking components. The channeled envelope has a front and a back surface laminated and integrated together to form a unitary body essentially free of any sealing materials. A lightweight, light-emitting device or low-pressure discharge lamp can be formed from this channeled envelope, suitable for employment in the fields of LCD backlighting, automotive lighting, and general lighting.

Internally channeled glass envelope with molded edge for affixing attachments

A compact fluorescent lamp in the shape of a conventional light bulb. The exterior and interior surfaces of the lamp are formed by the front and back surfaces of an envelope which defines a cavity whose surface is coated with phosphor. There is a gas discharge channel having at least two electrodes, is located within the cavity for receiving a discharge or ionizable gas. A ballast housed in the cavity is electrically connected to the two electrodes, and when connected to a screw-base, the base is in electrical contact with the ballast.

Channeled glass article for compact fluorescent lighting

A bowl-shaped, concave reflector, adapted to be assembled with a lamp to provide light reflection, is disclosed. The reflector has a large, front opening through which light is projected, and which is bordered by a peripheral rim composed of four corner zones and four side zones alternating therewith. The width of the rim in the corner zones is greater than that in the intermediate side zones, and the wall of the reflector has four flattened zones adjacent the side zones of the rim, whereby the reflector has the exterior appearance of a four sided body.
