A document is scanned in a scanning device to obtain electronic data. The electronic data represents information on the document. The electronic data is stored to a storage device. An error then occurs either before or after beginning transmission of the data to an e-mail server. The error causes a failure in the communication of the data to the e-mail server. The method of failure detection depends on the type of failure. For a loss of power, the data storage device is examined for the electronic data. If electronic data is found, communication is established with the e-mail server and the electronic data is transmitted to the e-mail server. The data storage device must be a non-volatile data storage device to recover from a loss of power error. For a loss of communication with the server or failure to establish communication with the server, communication is established with the e-mail server and the electronic data is transmitted to the e-mail server.

Job recovery for scan to email

A method for transmitting data contained in a document between a scanning device and a plurality of heterogeneous receiver destinations, each respective receiver destination being capable of receiving scanned information in a specific data form, is set forth. In a first step, a plurality of heterogeneous receiver destinations are selected. Next, an acceptable data form for each receiver destination is determined. The document is then scanned once to convert the document into electronic data. The electronic data is then used to create a respective electronic data file for each receiver destination, each file converted to a data form appropriate to its corresponding receiver destination. The electronic data files are then transmitted to their respective receiver destinations. In a system including a scanning device connected to at least one receiver capable of receiving scanned information as electronic files, a scanning device transmission arrangement is also set forth. The arrangement includes a processor for storing, retrieving, and selecting a plurality of heterogeneous receiver destinations. A scanning device is provided for converting the document into electronic data. Also included is a communication device for establishing contact with a selected plurality of heterogeneous receiver destinations and for transmitting data created from a scanned document to the selected plurality of heterogeneous receiver destinations simultaneously.

Single-scan transmission of documents to multiple heterogeneous receivers

In an image forming device, a control panel having an intuitive hierarchical layout including: three rocker type switches corresponding to a menu selector, an item selector and a value selector; a select push-button; a job cancel push-button; and a go button. Menu selector, item selector, value selector and select button are arranged in an intuitive hierarchical fashion with the selectors corresponding to higher level features and menus are placed higher in the control panel layout hierarchy than lower level selectors. The rocker type switches allow a user to proceed through menus and items within the menus in both forward and backward directions. The separate go button as well as the separate job cancel button are provided to allow independent selection of those features.
