A disconnect system for modular cable protectors includes tool engagement features to facilitate disassembly of the side ramps from the center sections of the cable protectors using a hand tool. The tool is used to removably engage these tool engagement features to enable the user to exert an upward force to disengage the edge connectors and end connectors on the side ramps and center section of each cable protector. For example, the tool engagement features can be openings (e.g., slots or recesses) in the top surface of the side ramp with undercuts adjacent to the lower ends of the openings. A tool with vertical rods is manually inserted into the openings to disengage the side ramps. Horizontal projections at the bottom of the vertical rods engage the undercuts and allow the user to disengage the side ramps by lifting upward on the tool.

An auxiliary side ramp for use with modular cable protectors includes a number of tool engagement features. A tool can be used to removably engage these tool engagement features and allows a user to exert an upward force to disengage the edge connectors on adjacent auxiliary side ramps, and also disengage the auxiliary side ramp from the underlying cable protector. For example, the tool engagement features can be slots in the top surface of the auxiliary side ramp with undercuts adjacent to the lower ends of the slots. A tool with vertical rods is manually inserted into the slots to disengage the cable protectors. Horizontal projections at the bottom of the vertical rods engage the undercuts in the slots, and allow the user to disengage adjacent auxiliary side ramps by lifting upward on the tool.

A modular cable protector system has a cable protector with a lid that can be easily opened using a tool to removably engage a number of tool engagement features on the cable protector. For example, the tool engagement features can be openings or slots in the upper surface of the cable protector having undercuts extending horizontally beneath the lid from the lower portion of the openings. The tool can have an elongated vertical member with a horizontal protrusions at its lower end that can be inserted into the openings with the horizontal protrusions extending into the undercuts beneath the lid.

A plurality of modular cable protectors can be removably connected in series by complementary end connectors at each end. Each cable protector also includes a number of tool engagement features that that can be removably engaged by a tool that enables a user to exert an upward force to disengage the end connectors on adjacent cable protectors. For example, the tool engagement features can be slots in the top surface of the cable protector with undercuts adjacent to the lower ends of the slots. A tool with vertical rods is manually inserted into the slots to disengage the cable protectors. Horizontal projections at the bottom of the vertical rods engage the undercuts in the slots, and allow the user to disengage adjacent cable protectors by lifting upward on the tool.

A modular cable protector can be removably connected in series with like cable protectors by complementary male and female end connectors. A number of openings extend downward along the peripheral walls of the adjacent end connectors to define a pattern of gaps and regions of contact between adjacent end connectors. Preferably, undercuts extend from the lower portions of the openings. A tool can be used to removably engage these openings and undercuts, thereby allowing a user to exert an upward force to disengage the end connectors on adjacent cable protectors.

A cable connector cover for use with modular cable protectors includes a bottom recess for housing cables and cable connectors. The cable protector cover also has a number of openings to provide access into the bottom recess. These openings are adjacent to the connectors and are aligned with the channels of the cable protectors to allow cables to run from the cable protectors into the recess. The upper portion of the cable connector cover can extend upward to a sufficient height to provide a visual indicator to passersby.

A cable protector includes a channel recessed into, and extending along the upper surface of a base. A number of dividers can be removably inserted into the channel from above to divide the channel into a plurality of tracks for carrying cables that can be inserted from above. Alternatively, a removable tray with a desired number of dividers can be placed as a unit in the channel, instead of inserting individual dividers. A lid covers the channel and dividers to provide a surface for traffic over the cable protector. Sets of complementary fasteners, such a tabs and keyed slots, can be employed to removably secure the dividers in the channel of the cable protector.

A cable protector includes a base with a number of channels for carrying cables extending along its upper surface, and a raised barrier lid removably covering the channels and extending above the base to a sufficient height to provide a visual indicator to passersby. The barrier lid may include an upper portion forming a wall or bearing visual graphics providing information to passersby. The upper portion of the barrier lid may also include a connector to removably securing an attachment, such as a light, sign, alarm, or a flexible member for marking a traffic pathway.

A cable protector includes a base with a number of channels for carrying cables extending along its upper surface, and a raised barrier lid removably covering the channels and extending above the base to a sufficient height to provide a visual indicator to passersby. A hand rail member can be removably attached to the side ramps of a modular cable protector. The hand rail member has a body with a base shaped to allow a series of cable protectors to be attached together in an end-to-end fashion, connectors for attaching the hand rail member to corresponding connectors on the side ramps of a modular cable protector, and a hand rail extending across the top of the hand rail member.

A modular cable protector has a side ramp extending laterally outward and downward from the top to the base along one side of the cable protector, and a side ramp cover extending laterally outward and upward from the base to the top along the opposing side of the cable protector. The side ramp cover can be use to abut and cover the side ramp of an adjacent cable protector with the tops of the cable protectors in vertical alignment to form a substantially continuous surface.
