Example implementations include an addressable device having a base unit mountable on a structure and a device head removably mountable onto the base unit. A removable addressing mechanism is removably mountable onto the base unit and is configured for setting an address for the addressable device. The device head includes an optical address detection mechanism that, when the device head and the removable addressing mechanism are mounted onto the base unit, is configured to align with the removable addressing mechanism to optically read the address configured in the removable addressing mechanism. The removable addressing mechanism is electrically isolated from the base unit, the device head, and the optical address detection mechanism.

The present invention relates to a system for testing the availability of a detector for detecting smoke. More specifically, the present invention relates to a detector with a testing unit arranged to detect whether the detector has been covered, such that it is unable to perform its function as a smoke detector.

Smoke detector availability test

A smoke detector test apparatus comprises an aerosol generator; a reservoir for holding a test fluid; a compressor for pressurising the test fluid in the reservoir; and a valve for releasing a measured dose of the test fluid from the reservoir to the aerosol generator for aerosolization of the measured dose of the test fluid.

Smoke detector remote test apparatus

The present invention relates to a fire detector testing device for installation with, or retrofitting to, a fire detector. An aerosol generator in fluid connection with a liquid reservoir directs an aerosol towards a detector element of the fire detector in order to test whether smoke entry has been compromised. The liquid reservoir of the present invention may be installed within a base of the detector, between the base and the detector, or in the detector itself.

Smoke detector tester

The detector has a first optical smoke detector having a first smoke detector light source arranged for emitting a first beam of light and a first scattered light sensor positioned to detect light from the first beam which is scattered by smoke present within a detection zone; a second optical smoke detector having a second smoke detector light source arranged for emitting a second beam of light and a second scattered light sensor positioned to detect light from the second beam which is scattered by smoke present within the detection zone; and an object proximity detector to detect an object in the detection zone.

Chamberless smoke detector

A particulate detector () comprises a radiation source () arranged to emit radiation in at least first and second predetermined wavebands towards a sampling region () suspected of containing particulates, and a detection element (), shielded from the radiation source (), and arranged to detect radiation from the sampling region () at least first and second instances. The radiation source () is such that the emissions in the wavebands temporarily overlap. The detector is such that, at the instances at which the radiation is detected, the relative contributions from the emissions in each predetermined waveband are distinguishable, thereby allowing characteristics of the particulates to be determined. The radiation source () may comprise a light emitting diode ().

Particulate detector

A detector comprises a detector base () and first and second detector elements (&) each having a respective electronic interface (). The detector base () has electronic interfaces () to the electronic interface () of each of the detector elements (), wherein at least one of the detector elements is constructed as a replaceable module ().

Detector

A self-monitoring smoke detector comprising a housing () defining an internal chamber (). An optical transmitter () is mounted within the housing () so as to direct light into the optical chamber (). An optical receiver () is mounted in the housing () and in optical communication with the optical chamber (). The optical transmitter () and the optical receiver () are so positioned that light from the transmitter cannot directly reach the receiver. Monitoring means is provided, comprising first and second light-scattering means (and) positioned respectively in alignment with the transmitter () and the receiver (). The arrangement is such that, in the absence of reflector particles in the optical chamber, light from the transmitter () can reach the receiver () only after scattering at the first light-scattering means () and then after scattering at the second light-scattering means ().

Smoke detector

A detection system in which a single sensor () is employed to detect two, or more, levels, or ranges, of a parameter. The output signal from the sensor () is fed to a detection circuit () for amplification and thence to a control circuit (). The control circuit () is switchable, either manually, or preferably programmably, for example by a timer, between two or more modes of operation for processing the output signal from the sensor () in a different manner, for example using different algorithms, according to the condition that is to be detected. The switching of the control circuit () between its modes results in a signal being sent to the detection circuit () to change its sensitivity to the signal received from the sensor (), thereby to maintain accuracy of measurement of the parameter in both or all modes of operation.

Detection arrangements

An amplification circuit for use with an electro chemical cell is disclosed. The cell is operated in the amperometric mode and finds beneficial application in the detection of carbon monoxide (CO) gas. The amplification circuit of the invention is used to derive electrical output signals from the cell whilst ensuring that the cell electrodes are held at a potential that minimises cross-sensitivities and controlling voltage spikes which the cell would otherwise extend in duration, due to its capacitive behaviour, and comprises an operational amplifier connected to derive electrical output signals from the cell and having a feedback path incorporating at least one component of a current mirror circuit.
