The present invention is directed to a self-locking non-backdrivable gear system. The gear system may comprise a primary motor input and gear box. The primary motor input is for rotation of the gearbox about the axis of a drive shaft. The gearbox may comprise an input ring gear, one or more locking gears, fixed gear, and output gear. In operation, rotation of the primary motor input causes rotation of the ring gear which causes rotation of the locking gear which causes rotation of the output gear which causes rotation of the drive shaft. However, in the absence of rotation of the ring gear, a rotational force applied to the output gear causes the gear teeth on the fixed and output gears to lock the gear in place.

Non-backdrivable self-locking gear system

The present invention is directed to a self-locking non-backdrivable gear system. The gear system may comprise a primary motor input and self-lubricating gear box. The primary motor input is for rotation of the gearbox about the axis of a drive shaft. The gearbox may comprise an input ring gear, one or more planet locking gears, fixed spur gear, and output spur gear. In operation, rotation of the primary motor input causes rotation of the ring gear which causes rotation of the planet locking gear which causes rotation of the output spur gear which causes rotation of the drive shaft. However, in the absence of rotation of the ring gear, a rotational force applied to the output spur gear causes the gear teeth on the fixed and output spur gears to lock the planet gear in place.

A self-locking non-backdrivable gear system in one embodiment includes an input spur gear mounted to a drive shaft, the input spur gear positioned in meshing engagement with a ring gear on which is mounted at least one planet locking gear which rotates with the ring gear and rotates on its own mounting. The planet locking gear meshes with a fixed spur gear and an output spur gear connected to a bi-rotational load bearing device. The fixed and output gears have different number of teeth and will lock in place with the planet gear should a rotational force be applied to the load bearing device in the absence of a rotational force at the drive shaft.

Non-backdrivable gear system

A winch system with a force cable that transmits electrical current and/or digital data to the load. For example, the force cable, including a power line and/or a signal line and includes at least: (i) a first portion extending from the load to the drum; and (ii) a second portion that is wound around the drum. If there is a power line in the force cable it is electrically connected to an electrical commutator by a rotating current path. If there is a signal line in the force cable it is connected in data communication to a data signal commutator by a rotating communication path. The commutator also has an input for receiving electrical current and/or digital data, as appropriate. The commutator transmits the electrical current and/or digital data from its input to the rotating current path and/or communication path. The drum defines an axial channel extending from at least one end of the drum along its axial direction, and current path(s) and/or communication path(s) are routed through the channel. There is a distribution box at a first axial end of the drum and the commutator is at the second axial end of the drum. The drum includes at least one radial channel that includes: (i) a first portion for receiving a force bearing member of the force cable from outside of the drum; and (ii) a second portion for guiding at least a portion of the current path(s) and/or the communication path(s) from outside of the drum to the axial channel.

Power cable

A lift system having a modular backbone with two or more backbone sections being attached end to end to form the backbone. Also, a lift system with end to end modular attachment, using universal joints, between motor assembly(ies), shaft section(s), drum assembly(ies) and/or shaft end sections. Also, a lift assembly with a backbone having longitudinally adjustable lift component attachment hardware, such as an elongated slot with lips suitable for engaging a nut tooth.

Configurable winch

The present invention discloses a drive system for theatrical rigging, comprising a drive rope and a drive pulley. The drive rope has a fiber or cable core, surrounded by a plastic jacket. Formed on or in the surface of the drive rope are traction features that engage corresponding grooves in the drive pulley.

Drive rope and drive pulley

A theater rigging assembly having a beam, which is attached to structural support members of a theater or other performing arts venue. The assembly further includes a winch assembly and head block that can be positioned at any point along the beam and selectively fixed in position. The winch portion includes cables for raising and lowering battens or other loads. The head block includes head sheaves, which redirect the cables to loft sheaves that are selectively attached to the beam. The head sheaves are diagonally displaced to separate the cables. The winch portion includes a motor, a gear box, a drum and a brake. The brake includes a ratchet and two brake disks. It uses at least one friction surface that contacts at least one of the brake disks to cause a pawl to engage or disengage from the ratchet.

Theater rigging system

A image is printed from a source of drawing instructions. The image is reducible to pixels arranged in a plurality of ranked image lines. The system employs a storage device having compressed and uncompressed regions. Each region has a designated capacity and each is arranged to store pixels of one or more of the plurality of image lines. A drawing processor is coupled to the storage device and can be coupled to the source of drawing instructions for responding thereto. This drawing processor can store new pixels in the storage device for successively selected ones of the image lines. The drawing processor has a conditional device, a decompression device and an insertion device. The conditional device can compressively encode and move from the uncompressed region to the compressed region, a remote one of the image lines, if: a) the selected one of the image lines is in the compressed region, and b) the uncompressed region has reached its designated capacity. The decompression device can expansively decode the selected one of the image lines, if located in the compressed region. The insertion device can insert one or more new pixels according to the drawing instructions into the selected one of the image lines by storing the selected one in the uncompressed region. The printing system also has a printing engine coupled to the storage device for printing the plurality of image lines in rank order, decompressing compressed ones of the image lines from the compressed region before printing.
