An ethylene copolymer comprising ethylene and at least one alpha olefin having from 4 to 8 carbon atoms has a density f from 0.940 to 0.960 g/cm, a molecular weight distribution, Mw/Mn of from 9 to 12, and a Z-average molecular weight, Mz of greater than 500,000. The ethylene copolymer is made in a multi-zone reactor system under solution phase polymerization conditions and is useful in the preparation of biaxially oriented polyethylene (BOPE) films.

This disclosure relates to ethylene interpolymer products comprising a Melt Flow-Intrinsic Viscosity Index value, MFIVI, of from ≥0.05 to ≤0.80; a first derivative of a melt flow distribution function, formula (I) at a loading of 4000 g, of from ≥−1.85 to ≤−1.51; a sum of unsaturation, SUM, from ≥0.047 to ≤0.100 unsaturations per 100 carbon atoms; and a residual QC catalytic metal of from ≥0.03 to ≤5 ppm of hafnium. Ethylene interpolymer products comprise at least two ethylene interpolymers. Ethylene interpolymer products are characterized by a melt index (I) from 0.3 to 500 dg/minute, a density from 0.855 to 0.975 g/cc and from 0 to 25 mole percent of one or more a-olefins. Ethylene interpolymer products have polydispersity, M/M, from 1.7 to 25; and CDBIvalues from 1% to 98%. These ethylene interpolymer products have utility in flexible as well as rigid applications.

Ethylene interpolymer products having unique melt flow-intrinsic viscosity (MFIVI) and high unsaturation

The devolatilization of plastomer pellets is undertaken using nitrogen that is recycled in the process. Volatile hydrocarbons are removed from the nitrogen in a hydrocarbon extraction vessel (e.g. an adsorbent bed). In an embodiment, the recycled nitrogen contains less than 300 ppm of volatile hydrocarbons after being treated in the adsorbent bed.

Devolatilization of plastomer pellets

This invention relates to a self cleaning reactor and to a process for the oligomerization of ethylene that employs a self-cleaning reactor. The reactor includes a mass of inert, particulate cleaning bodies that are entrained by the liquid in the reactor and scour the internal surfaces of the reactor during normal operation. This scouring action reduces the level of fouling on the reactor surfaces. Foulant material (polyethylene) is removed from the process on a continuous basis but the cleaning bodies remain within the reactor.

Off-line filter free Ziegler-Natta catalyst preparation

This disclosure relates to a method and an apparatus for the delivery of a multi-component olefin polymerization catalyst to a polymerization reactor. The components soluble in a first solvent are delivered under pressure along with that solvent in a first delivery conduit. The components that are insoluble in the first solvent but are soluble in a second solvent are delivered under pressure in a second delivery conduit which is arranged coaxially with and disposed within the first conduit, such that the inner conduit and outer conduit terminate at a common catalyst component mixing conduit which extends into the polymerization reactor and in which the catalyst components mix to form an active polymerization catalyst.

A solution polymerization process uses a reactor system in which a first stage is operated in a non adiabatic (cooled) manner and is connected to a second stage containing a downstream reactor that is operated adiabatically. In an embodiment, the first reactor stage includes at least one loop reactor and the second stage includes a tubular reactor. In an embodiment, the first stage is operated with a single site catalyst and at least one downstream reactor uses a Ziegler Natta catalyst.

Optimized agitator system for production of polyolefin

This disclosure relates to a continuous solution three reactor polymerization process. Process solvent, ethylene, optional comonomers, optional hydrogen and a single site catalyst system are injected into a first and second reactor configured in parallel to one another. A third reactor receives effluent from the first reactor, the second reactor, or a combination of the first and second reactors. Fresh monomer is feed to the third reactor for further polymerization and to give a final polyethylene product.

Multi reactor solution polymerization, polyethylene and polyethylene film

The oligomerization of ethylene using a chromium (Cr) catalyst having a phosphorus-nitrogen-phosphorus (P&#x2014;N&#x2014;P) ligand is known. Reactor fouling with by-product polyethylene can be severe at operating temperatures of greater than 60&#xb0; C. However, the activation of such catalysts in a continuous flow reactor at low temperatures can be difficult and activity can be low. We have now discovered that highly active Cr/P&#x2014;N&#x2014;P catalysts may be prepared and activated in-situ (i.e. directly in the polymerization reactor) at low temperatures (from about 30 to about 45&#xb0; C.) by combining the Cr; the P&#x2014;N&#x2014;P ligand and an aluminoxane in the process solvent in the presence of hydrogen. The use of hydrogen allows very high productivity (greater than 1&#xd7;10grams of ethylene conversion per gram of Cr) at low temperature. We have also observed reactor fouling rates as low as 2 to 10 parts per million of polyethylene per hour (based on total ethylene conversion) using this process.

Continuous ethylene oligomerization with in-situ catalyst preparation

The oligomerization of ethylene using a chromium catalyst having a heteroatomic ligand may be used to provide oligomerization products that are selective towards hexene and/or octene. However, such processes also typically produce some polymer as an undesirable by product. The present invention is directed towards improvements in the selective oligomerization of ethylene.

Heat management in ethylene oligomerization

Shrink film having a desirable balance of properties is manufactured from a polyethylene blend composition having a fractional melt index and a molecular weight distribution of from about 2.5 to about 7. The blend composition comprises a first blend component that is made with a single site catalyst and has a molecular weight of greater than about 140,000 and a first density, d. The blend composition also contains a second blend component having a lower molecular weight and a second density, d, that is greater than the density of din an amount of from about 0.018 to about 0.032 g/cc. The films of this disclosure may be used, for example, as an overwrap or pallet wrap to protect goods during shipping and in food packaging applications (such as shrink wrap for frozen poultry).

Shrink film from single site catalyzed polyethylene

This disclosure relates to films comprising at least one layer of an ethylene interpolymer product. The ethylene interpolymer product comprises a first ethylene interpolymer, a second ethylene interpolymer and optionally a third ethylene interpolymer; wherein the ethylene interpolymer product has &#x2265;0.03 terminal vinyl unsaturations per 100 carbon atoms and &#x2265;3 parts per million (ppm) of a total catalytic metal; and optionally a Dilution Index, Y, greater than 0. The disclosed ethylene interpolymer products have a melt index from about 0.4 to about 10 dg/minute, a density from about 0.900 to about 0.940 g/cm, a polydispersity (M/M) from about 2 to about 12 and a CDBIfrom about 20% to about 98%. Further, the ethylene interpolymer products are a blend of at least two ethylene interpolymers; where one ethylene interpolymer is produced with a single-site catalyst formulation and at least one ethylene interpolymer is produced with a heterogeneous catalyst formulation.
