The present invention relates to a scanning probe () for capturing data from a plurality of points on the surface of an object by irradiating the object with a light stripe and detecting light reflected from the object surface, the scanning probe comprising (a) stripe generating means () for generating and emitting a light stripe (); (b) a camera () comprising an imaging sensor having an array of pixels to detect the light stripe reflected from the object surface; (c) means for adjusting the intensity of the light stripe () during acquisition of the frame, in dependence upon the intensities detected by the camera (). It also relates to a means to modify the stripe length, a scanner with separate compartment for the processing means, and an attachable dust cover for a scanner.

Optical scanning probe

Apparatus for generating computer models of individuals is provided comprising a booth () that is connected to a server () via the Internet (). Image data of an individual is captured using the booth () and a computer model corresponding to the individual is then generated by comparing the captured image data relative to a stored generic model. Data representative of a generated model is then transmitted to the server () where it is stored. Stored data can then be retrieved via the Internet using a personal computer () having application software stored therein. The application software on the personal computer () can then utilise the data to create graphic representations of an individual in any one of a number of poses.

Method and apparatus for the generation of computer graphic representations of individuals

A scanning apparatus and method for generating computer models of three-dimensional objects comprising means for scanning the object to capture data from a plurality of points on the surface of the object so that the scanning may capture data from two or more points simultaneously, sensing the position of the scanning means, generating intermediate data structures from the data, combining intermediate data structures to provide the model; display, and manually operating the scanning apparatus. The signal generated is structured light in the form of a stripe or an area from illumination sources such as a laser diode or bulbs which enable data for the position and color of the surface to be determined. The object may be on a turnable and may be viewed in real time as rendered polygons on a monitor as the object is scanned.
