The disclosed invention relates to a biodegradable grease composition. The grease composition comprises the reaction product of a dispersion of metal oxide and/or hydroxide particulates with at least one animal or vegetable oil. The dispersion comprises an organic medium and has a water content of up to about 0.5% by weight water. The particulates have a mean particle size up to about 15 microns. A process for making a grease composition using a dispersion of metal oxide and/or hydroxide particulates is disclosed.

Grease composition

The invention provides a grease composition comprising a stable dispersion of a metal hydroxide with a number average particle size in the range 20 nanometres to 2 micrometres, a surfactant with a HLB of less than 10, a mono- or poly-carboxylic acid, and an oil of lubricating viscosity. The method of preparing a grease composition is also disclosed with benefits including a reduction in reaction time, amount of foam produced and environmental hazards.

Metal hydroxide desiccated emulsions used to prepare grease

The present invention relates to an additive comprising a blend of an alkyl ester copolymer, preferably an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, and naphthenic oil. The invention further relates to the use of such alkyl ester copolymers for improving the flow properties of mineral oils. Most preferably, the additive is employed in manual transmission oils, axle factory fill oils, and extended drain oils, when used in conjunction with driveline oil filtration. The additive of the present invention prevents filter blockage of such a filter due to wax formation.
