An extended coverage sidewall automatic fire sprinkler includes a generally tubular body with a central passageway and a central axis. One end of the passageway forms an outlet at one end of the tubular body. A closure at the one end of the tubular body at least essentially generally closes the passageway. A trigger positioned to releasably retain the closure at the outlet closes the passageway. A deflector at a discharge end of the sprinkler is coupled with the tubular body facing and spaced axially away from the outlet and intersects the central axis. The tubular body has a K factor greater than 9. The deflector is shaped and positioned to transform water discharged horizontally from the outlet upon release of the closure by the trigger into a spray pattern of water droplets dispersed over a generally horizontal, generally rectangularly-shaped extended coverage are of more than one hundred square feet located on one side of the sprinkler in an amount and with a distribution effective to control an ordinary hazard fire in the coverage area.

A system and a method for leveraging human knowledge held by system administrators to support improved or optimal management of an information technology network. The present invention monitors and records the states and values key management indicators related to actions taken by a human system administrator in improving a perceived sub-optimal state of the information technology network. The present invention predicts the effect of command in situations later occurring, and optionally suggests actions to a system administrator. The method of the present invention optionally enables embodiments of the present invention to automatically select one or more preferred system commands and execute the selected command or commands.

Method and system for improved in-line management of an information technology network

A low pressure, early suppression fast response sprinkler includes a generally tubular body having an inlet ends, an opposing discharge end and an internal passageway extending between the inlet and discharge ends with a K factor greater than 16 where the K factor equals the flow of water in gallons per minute through the internal passageway divided by the square root of the pressure of water fed into the tubular body in pounds per square inch gauge. A deflector is coupled with the tubular body and spaced from and generally aligned with the discharge end of the internal passageway so as to be impacted by a flow of water issuing in a column from the discharge end upon activation of the sprinkler. The deflector is configured and positioned to deflect the flow of water generally radially outwardly all around the sprinkler. A closure is releasably positioned at the discharge end of the tubular body so as to close the internal passageway by a heat responsive trigger mounted to releasably retain the closure at the discharge end of the tubular body. The trigger has a response time indices (RTI) of less than 100 metersec. A specific pendent sprinkler with a nominal K factor of 25, an RTI of less than 40 msecand delivering at least 100 gallons per minute at an operating pressure at or below 20 psig is described.

Low pressure, early suppression fast response sprinklers

A fire sprinkler piping system fitting including a polymeric body having at least a first tubular branch, a second tubular branch, and a third tubular branch. Each of the first, second and third tubular branches extend outwardly from a common junction. The first and second tubular branches are collinear and the third tubular branch is generally perpendicular to the first and second tubular branches. Each of the first, second and third tubular branches have a distal end opposite from the common junction. The fitting includes pair of internally threaded metal inserts. Each insert is at least partially molded into the distal end of a separate one of a first and second tubular branches. Each of the internally threaded inserts has a distal outer surface facing generally away from the common junction. The distal outer surfaces of the pair of internal threaded metal inserts is spaced apart a distance of between three inches and four inches. The distal end of the third tubular branch has a smooth internal bore to slidingly receive a smooth outer end of a length of pipe.

A specific early suppression fast response pendent sprinkler with a nominal K factor of 25, an RTI of less than 40 m sec and delivering at least 100 gallons per minute at an operating pressure at or below 20 psig is described.

Low pressure fast response bulb sprinklers

Multilayer fluid conduits are formed by adhering to a tubular outer surface of a metal pipe, a thermoplastic outer layer. The outer layer permits ends of the multilayer conduit to be joined together in leak-proof fluid conduit systems simply by adhering the conduit ends with compatible thermoplastic fittings. For fire protection systems, the preferred metal is steel, the preferred thermoplastic is CPVC and the preferred adhesive is heat activated. The adhesive coated metal pipe is preheated and the CPVC is extruded onto the outer surface of the heated metal pipe. Through the use of fire resistive CPVC, the multilayer conduit systems of the present invention can be installed in more severe fire threat areas than can existing, all plastic piping, including all CPVC piping systems. The conduit is assembled into systems on site simply by cutting and direct bonding with ordinary, all plastic fittings using appropriate bonding agents such as solvent based adhesives. CPVC fittings are preferred for fire protection systems.

Fluid conduit systems and methods for making

A specific pendent sprinkler with a nominal K factor of 25, an RTI of less than 40 m.sup.1/2 sec.sup.1/2 and delivering at least 100 gallons per minute at an operating pressure at or below 20 psig is described.

Multilayer fluid conduits

Directional sprinklers include a sprinkler body with a water directing structure configured to direct water passing from an outlet of the sprinkler body in one or more distinct and different directions. Water directing structures are disclosed in the form of deflectors having one or two separate water directing channels and hollow heads having at least two separate nozzles facing in two distinct and different directions. The channels and nozzles can be configured to direct water in diametrically opposing directions, mutually perpendicular directions or at any other desired orientation with respect to one another and to direct the water radially outwardly from the centerline of the sprinkler body outlet or at any predetermined transverse angle to that centerline. The throw of each channel and nozzle is longer than it is wide so that water is discharged over a generally rectangular or elliptical area in each direction. Different unidirectional and bidirectional downwardly discharging, upright sprinkler embodiments are disclosed particularly for use under pitched roofs, hipped roofs, dormers, interior cathedral ceilings and other pitched overhead interior walls.

Directional sprinklers

Ceiling sprinklers and sprinkler systems provide extended areas of ordinary and light hazard coverage through a combination of orifices with K factors greater than 9 and deflectors which extend water distributions radially with acceptable uniform average and absolute distribution densities all around and beneath the sprinklers. Described deflectors for concealed sprinklers are circular with slots extending axially and radially through inwardly towards the center of the deflector from the circular perimeter. Such deflectors include a central curved protrusion extending back towards the outlet to spread the water column over the deflecting structure and a surrounding planar annular area of the structure. The deflectors are supported on pins to telescope away from the sprinkler body and drop below or farther below the lower surface of the ceiling in which they are installed. Sprinkler systems of the present invention can be installed with closest adjoining pairs of sprinklers and branch lines spaced more than fifteen feet apart and up to twenty-feet apart when the sprinklers are located within at least seven and one-half feet and as close as only three feet or less above the protected area.

Extended coverage ceiling sprinklers and systems

An extended coverage ceiling sprinkler includes a generally tubular body having an inlet open end and an opposing, outlet open end with a minimal internal diameter greater than 0.65 inches and a K-factor of between about 14 and about 15. A plug at least essentially closes the outlet open end and an element releasably retains the plug in the outlet end. A deflector support extends away from the outlet end of the tubular body and a deflector is coupled to the tubular body through the deflector support. The deflector has a major surface facing, spaced from and aligned with the outlet open end with a circular outer perimeter less than 1.7 inches in outer diameter and a central area without water passing openings therethrough at least 0.75 inches in diameter. Slots extend generally radially inwardly from the perimeter and surround the central area which is slotless. The ratio of deflector outer diameter to slot depth is greater than 10 and up to about 14. Diametrically opposed pairs of imaginary projections extended tangentially from the major surface of the deflector facing the outlet open end, from between adjoining pairs of slots, and define an acute angle facing the outlet open end of between about 80.degree. and about 100.degree..

Extended coverage automatic ceiling sprinkler

Ceiling, sprinklers and sprinkler systems provide extended areas of coverage through a combination of extra large and super large orifices and deflectors which extend radial distributions with acceptable uniform average and absolute distribution densities all around and beneath the sprinklers. Described deflectors are circular and substantially flat, being essentially flat in pendent style and slightly fructoconical in upright style. Slots of alternating length are provided extending inwardly towards the center of the deflector from the circular perimeter to within no more than one-half inch and preferably no more than 0.6 of an inch from the center of the deflector. The upright sprinkler deflector includes central circular planar areas at least one inch and preferably at least 1.2 inch in diameter while the outer annular peripheral portion of such deflectors are coned back towards their supporting tubular bodies at an included cone angle of about one hundred forty degrees or more. Sprinkler systems of the present invention can be installed with closest adjoining pairs of sprinklers and branch lines spaced more than fifteen feet apart when the sprinklers are located within at least seven feet six inches and as close as only three feet to the protected area.

Ceiling sprinklers and sprinkler systems provide extended areas of coverage through a combination of extra large and super large orifices and deflectors which extend radial distributions with acceptable uniform average and absolute distribution densities all around and beneath the sprinklers. Described deflectors are circular and substantially flat, being essentially flat in pendent style and slightly fructoconical in upright style. Slots of alternating length are provided extending inwardly towards the center of the deflector from the circular perimeter to within no more than one-half inch and preferably no more than 0.6 of an inch from the center of the deflector.
