The invention relates to an external fixator device and a method of its use in treating bone fractures and in orthopedic interventions, such as corrective osteotomies.

Modular external fixator and method of its use

A link () for connecting two loops of a flexible tension-carrying construct (). It solves the problem of providing effective means to connect two anchor points (), typically on bones articulating at a joint by the flexible tension-carrying construct.

Implant system for repair or replacement of tension carrying connective tissue

An internal bracing system is disclosed for stabilizing a joint such as the knee, shoulder, ankle or the like. The internal bracing system includes an extra-articular tension band mechanism and an anchor assembly therefore. The internal bracing system adds substantial control to unstable joints which is effective in limiting the pathological joint motions and internal slippage. The anchor anchoring assembly designed to affix a tethering device to various bony structures which form a joint, for the purpose of providing stability. The anchor assembly includes an anchor and a set screw. A series of disc structures compressed by the set screw securely holds the tether without binding.

The articulating joint prostheses of the invention demonstrate reduced wear and can include a cup () formed of UHMWPE. An insert () of a hard material, such as metal, ceramic or cross-linked UHMWPE is positioned within the cup at a location of the contact between the cup and head (). The shape of either component of the kinematic pair may be modified so as to result in an annular surface contact between the two components, with the insert positioned at the annular surface contact. Fluid trapped between the two components within the inner contour of the annular contact area is pressurized under load due to elastic deformation of the components and exuded out through an inter-articular gap over the surface of contact of the insert. This aids lubrication and reduces wear.

An internal bracing system is disclosed for stabilizing a joint such as the knee, shoulder, ankle or the like. The internal bracing system includes an extra-articular tension band mechanism and an anchor assembly therefore. The internal bracing system adds substantial control to unstable joints which is effective in limiting the pathological joint motions and internal slippage. The anchor anchoring assembly designed to affix a tethering device to various bony structures which form a joint, for the purpose of providing stability. The anchor assembly includes an anchor and a set screw. A double helix thread/chamber structure between the anchor and set screw securely holds the tether without binding.

A device for rotational stabilization of bone segments comprising a bone plate, a bone lag screw, and a locking collar. The bone lag screw has a bone-engagement end, a distal end, and a keyed cross-sectional profile, the bone-engagement end configured for engaging a first bone segment. The bone plate has a flat portion for engaging a second bone segment and a barrel portion having an internal bore for slidably receiving the lag screw. The locking collar has a keyed internal profile that mates with the keyed cross-sectional profile of the lag screw to rotationally couple the locking collar and the lag screw when the lag screw is inserted through the locking collar, and an outer surface configured and dimensioned for (1) free rotation, in a first position, within the internal bore of the bone plate barrel portion and (2) frictionally engaging, in a second position, the internal bore of the bone plate barrel portion to resist or prevent rotation of the collar relative to the bone plate, and thereby resist or prevent rotation of the lag screw relative to the bone plate.

An intervertebral fusion cage for insertion between two adjacent, opposing vertebrae, wherein the fusion cage is constructed in a way that stress absorbed by the cage is transferred to the graft material in the hollow inner cavity, thus allowing ideal strain levels to be attained in the graft material under minimal loads, while also offering a level of protection to the graft material preventing mechanical failure of the graft material due to high strains.

The present invention relates to a bone plate having a top side, a bottom side for contacting the bone, two longitudinal sides, a plurality of holes which extend from the top side to the bottom side, and a longitudinal axis. The cross-section of the holes tapers from the top side to the bottom side and the bottom side is provided with recesses. The surface of the top side adjacent to the holes forms island-like recesses relative to the remaining surface of the top side. The bottom side is provided with two different types of recesses which create a plurality of supporting points for contacting the bone. In addition, the holes conically taper from the top side to the bottom side.

Bone plate

An osteosynthetic implant for setting a broken bone. The implant comprises a nail having a plurality of helically twisted blades that share a common helical axis. At least two of the blades define an angle of less than 180.degree. in a plane perpendicular to the helical axis. In a preferred embodiment, one pair of the blades of the nail is tapered towards its proximal portion and another pair has a uniform thickness. The blades are twisted by at least about 30.degree.. A cannulation runs through the center of the nail to receive a guide wire. The nail is slidably engageable to a member that is securable to an elongated portion of the bone, such as a side plate or an intramedullary nail. In a preferred implantation orientation, the proximate portion of the tapered blades is parallel to the elongated portion of the bone, and a proximate portion of the uniform blades is perpendicular thereto.

Helical osteosynthetic implant

This bone plate has an upper side, a lower side for bone contact, two longitudinal sides, a longitudinal center line and a plurality of screw holes extending from said upper to said lower side. The surface of said upper side around said screw holes is designed as a depressed area with regard to the rest of said upper side and the side edge of said depressed area is running approximately parallel to said longitudinal sides. The removal of material is effected at strategic locations of the bone plate in order to reduce the peak stresses.

Bone defects after trauma, tumor resection, etc. still present a major clcal problem. Current treatment with bone grafts, bone-inducing substances, Ilizarov techniques, artificial prosthetic replacements, or bone transplants are only partially satisfying. Bioresorbable shell structures for treatment of bone defects are disclosed. The shells are anatomically shaped and serve as containers or bone grafts or bone precursors as well as temporary structural supports. The shells are preferably porous allowing for nutritional support of the graft and limit the thickness of the graft to no more than a few millimeters. Thus nutrients and metabolic by-products transport by diffusion alone is sufficient to maintain grafted metabolism in the critical phase before revascularization takes place.
