A modular system includes an LED driver and an LED light engine. The driver includes a switched mode power converter and a first control unit to control a switch of the converter, thereby controlling the supply current to an LED assembly of the light engine. The assembly includes LEDs and one or more switches arranged in series or in parallel with one or more of the LEDs. The light engine also includes a second control unit controlling the one or more switches of the LED assembly so as to control current through the LEDs. The first control unit controls amplitude of the supply current. The second control unit controls duty cycle of the LED current through the LEDs. The first and second control units are configured to synchronize a switching operation of the switched mode power converter with a switching operation of the switches of the light engine.

Modular lighting application

A network has wireless enabled nodes of more than one hardware type. A computing device obtains a software update for one of the node types and sends an announcement of availability through the network. The announcement includes a node type identifier. A node that recognizes the identifier as matching its own hardware type collects the software update through a series of one or more requested packet transfers from the controller. Each packet carrying part of the update also includes the node type identifier. A node of a different type that has received the packets may serve as a source of missing packets to other nodes. Alternatively, nodes needing missing packets can fetch them from the computing device. When the software update is completely received by a node of the identified type, that node reboots and executes the updated software. Any node of another type discards the packets.

Selective updating of nodes of a nodal wireless network

A modular system comprising a first component comprising an LED driver and is second component comprising a light engine is described. &#x2014;the LED driver comprising: a switched mode power converter configured to output a supply current; a first control unit configured to control a switch of the switched mode power converter, thereby controlling the supply current; &#x2014;the light engine comprising: an LED assembly configured to receive the supply current, the LED) assembly comprising a plurality of LEDs and one or more switches arranged in series or in parallel, with one or more LEDs of the plurality of LEDs, and a second control unit configured to control the one or more switches of the LED assembly, thereby controlling an LED current through the plurality of LEDs; wherein the first control unit is configured to control an amplitude of the supply current, the second control unit is configured to control a duty cycle of the LED current through the plurality of LEDs and wherein the first and second control unit are configured to synchronize to switching operation of the switch of the switched mode power converter with a switching operation of the one or more switches of the light engine.

An LED driver has outputs to drive LEDs in groups of different colour temperatures. An input is configured to receive setpoint information, and a control device is configured to determine a combined LED setpoint intensity for the groups and a combined LED setpoint colour temperature for the groups, from the LED setpoint information. If the LED setpoint intensity is above a threshold, the control device operates the LED driver outputs to mix the LED group outputs to jointly achieve the LED setpoint intensity and the LED setpoint colour temperature. If the LED setpoint intensity is below the threshold, the control device selects a single LED group, operates the LED driver output associated with the selected LED group to drive that one LED group at the LED setpoint intensity, and operates the remaining LED driver outputs to drive the remaining LED groups at zero LED intensity.

LED driver dimming

A method of replacing one of a light module and a driver module of a light unit includes reading a VLC code from a data storage memory of one of the light module and the driver. The visible light communication (VLC) code is transferred, via a connection between the light module and the driver module, and stored in the other one of the light module and the driver module. One of the light module and the driver module is elected for replacement. The VLC code from the other one of the light module and the driver module is transferred to the replaced one of the light module and the driver module. The transferred VLC code is stored in the data storage memory of the replaced one of the light module and the driver module.

An example method includes propagating a message including an instruction, from a gateway to a plurality of ancillary nodal devices (devices) in a flood network. Each of the plurality of devices is within an equal number of transmissive steps of the gateway through the flood network such that the message is propagated with approximately equivalent delay to each of the plurality of devices and substantially simultaneously received by all of the devices. The method also includes substantially simultaneously transmitting the message from each respective one of the devices to end nodal devices (end nodes) of a group of end nodes in the flood network in communication with the respective one of the devices. The method further includes, upon receipt of the message from the devices, substantially simultaneously executing the instruction, by each of the group of the end nodes of the flood network.

Command execution synchronization in a flood network

The disclosure provides an example of a system and a method for command execution synchronization in a nodal network. In one example, the method includes starting at a first time, propagating a message including an instruction and timestamp, in a nodal network including a plurality of wireless communication nodes (nodes). The timestamp identifies a second time later than the first time by an amount of time equal to or greater than a period of delay expected for propagation of the message through the nodal network to all of the nodes. The method also includes running a software (soft) clock in each of the nodes, the soft clocks being synchronized to within a timing error tolerance value of the soft clocks in other of the nodes and executing, by each respective one of the nodes, the instruction when the soft clock of the respective nodes reaches the second time identified by the timestamp.

Command execution synchronization in a nodal network using controlled delay techniques

A modular system includes an LED driver, including a switched mode power converter configured to output a supply current and a first control unit configured to control a switch of the switched mode power converter, and a light engine, including an LED assembly configured to receive the supply current, the LED assembly including a plurality of LEDs and one or more switches arranged in series or in parallel with one or more LEDs of the plurality of LEDs, and a second control unit configured to control the one or more switches of the LED assembly. The first control unit is configured to control an amplitude of the supply current. The second control unit is configured to control a duty cycle of the LED current through the plurality of LEDs.

The disclosure provides an example of a system and a method for command execution synchronization in a flood network. The invention relates to a method for changing the identification code of a light source in a visible light communication system, which visible light communication system comprises the light source, a driver system to drive the light source, and a server that is not able to communicate directly with the driver system, and which method makes use of a first mobile device comprising an image sensor, a processing unit, a network adapter, and a transmitter, wherein the processing unit is configured to process an output of the image sensor, wherein the processing unit is configured to communicate with the server via the network adapter, and wherein the processing unit is configured to send signals to the driver system using the transmitter, said method comprising the following steps: a. receiving a signal from the server by the network adapter of the first mobile device, said signal comprising a command to change the identification code of the light source from a first ID code to a second ID code; and b. transmitting, by the transmitter of the first mobile device, a signal to the driver system, said signal comprising a command to change the identification code of the light source to a second ID code.

Method for changing the identification code of a light source in visible light communication systems

A multi-mode control device is provided for controlling an external load device. The control device includes a high-power interface, a low-power interface, and a control module. The high-power interface can be electrically coupled to a high-power module providing current from an external power source to the load device. The low-power interface can be electrically coupled to a low-power module. The high-power interface can receive a first current from the high-power module. The low-power interface can receive a second current from the low-power module that is less than the first current. The low-power interface can prevent the first current from flowing to the low-power module. The control module, which is electrically coupled to the high-power interface and the low-power interface, be powered by one or more of the first and second current.

Multi-mode control device

A Bluetooth beacon for a luminaire assembly includes a module and an antenna associated with the module. The Bluetooth beacon is monted such that the antenna is communicatively visible from a light emitting side of the luminaire assembly. The Bluetooth beacon is configured to provide a signal extending a predetermined distance from the luminaire assembly such that a Bluetooth receiver on a user device can receive a signal from the Bluetooth beacon.

A dimmable lighting system may replace a bi-level lighting system without having to modify or supplement the existing wiring between a bi-level control unit and one or more light fixtures. The dimmable lighting system may include a dimming controller that may be configured to replace a bi-level control unit in situ (i.e., e.g., in a wall-mounted dual-gang switch box). The dimmable lighting system may also include a dimming driver that may be coupled to the dimming controller via the existing wiring of the bi-level lighting system. The dimming controller may output to the dimming driver a 0-10 volt DC dimming signal referenced to an AC utility voltage. In response, a dimmable lighting device coupled to the dimming driver may output light over a wide range of dimming light levels. Methods of replacing a bi-level lighting system with a dimmable lighting system are also provided, as are other aspects.
