A liquid delivery wand includes a centrally located fluid storage chamber. An absorbent pad is located within the working end of the wand for applying the treatment liquid to the skin while a vacuum is applied to the skin through an abrasive coated treatment tip. Coaxial, cylindrical tubes with flow channels between tube surfaces control the flow rate, the pressure drop being established by the close fit and length of adjacent surfaces of the coaxial components. The flow rate of the liquid is adjustable by simply rotating the interfitting components. The chamber that holds the liquid is sealed from the atmosphere at the distal and proximal end. When the wand is connected to vacuum and the distal end contacts the skin, the vacuum applies a negative pressure to the fluids within a fluid chamber. A small portion of liquid is thus transferred to wet the filter pad.

Device for applying liquid skincare products in combination with vacuum and abrasion

A treatment tool and tissue collection system, for removal of outer layers of skin to provide a revitalized, fresh skin surface, and a method of using same, comprising a abrasive tipped tool mounted on the end or within the end of a hollow tube, said tube being connected to a source of vacuum. The vacuum aids in maintaining intimate contact between the abrasive tip and the skin during the treatment process and transports the removed tissue to a collection container. The abrasive surface within the tube is a motor driven abrasive pad. Contact between the pad and the abrasive disk is brought about or increased by application of a vacuum through the tube to the skin surface.

Microdermabrasion device

A tool for inserting medical electrodes such as nerve-stimulating electrodes into tissue. An electrode is positioned fully within a tip of the tool so the tip end can be placed directly against the tissue to be penetrated for precise handheld positioning. A trigger on the tool is actuated to release a compressed spring in the tool to drive the electrode out of the tool tip into the target tissue. A viscous-damping means is provided in the tool to control electrode acceleration and velocity.

Microdermabrasion device and method of treating the skin surface

A surgical tool for controlling the depth of penetration of a cutter into bone. The tool has a tubular housing with three legs extending therefrom to provide a tripod-like support when positioned against the bone surface. A penetration-depth adjustment ring or sleeve is rotatable on the tubular housing, preferably in click-stop detented intervals, to establish a desired penetration depth for the cutter.

Controlled-depth bone cutter

A surgical drill uses burs with circular grooves about the circumference that are polygon shaped in cross section but curved along the length of the bur so as to accept locking balls therein. The burs slide within a tubular drive shaft that has transverse holes therein to guide the locking balls. A cylindrical cam surrounds the drive shaft and the locking balls to urge the balls radially inward into the bur groove. The cam is spring loaded axially. A spring loaded central pin within the drive shaft slides between the balls and urges the balls radially outward when no bur is inserted. A thumb button is used to disengage the ball surrounding cam.

An oscillating surgical saw and instrumentation system has an oscillating surgical saw and instrumentation for guiding the saw. The oscillating saw has a body or handle having guide pin holders disposed on opposite sides thereof and extending longitudinally therealong. Retractable guide pins are mounted in the guide pin holders. Resilient means are disposed in each guide pin holder which force the respective guide pin mounted therein longitudinally outward. The system further includes instrumentation for guiding the saw. The instrumentation comprises at least one cutting block. The cutting block is affixed to the bone being cut and has holes, which are preferably slots, for receiving the guide pins. These slots lie in planes which are parallel to planes in wich resected surfaces of the bone lie after they have been formed by cuts made to the bone. When the saw is used to cut bone, the cutting block is secured to the bone and the guide pins inserted into the holes in the cutting block. The cutting block and guide pins cooperate to secure the saw, cutting block, and bone against movement in all planes except the plane in which the saw is cutting to reduce the transmission of vibration from the bone being cut through the saw. The associated guide pin holes guide the saw blade as it cuts bone. As the saw blade cuts progressively deeper into the bone, the guide pins are forced into their guide pin holders so as not to interfere with the advancement of the saw blade into the bone.

A rotary driving apparatus having a collet housing defining a passageway which is adapted to receive, engage and rotate a bur having one end thereof which terminates in a notched bur key formed of a magnetizable material having a driving shaft having a first end and a second end which is rotatably supported in a collet housng with the first end of the driving shaft operatively coupled to and rotated by a rotary driving motor and with the second end of the driving shaft positioned within the collet housing passageway and being adapted to receive the bur and to engage and rotate the end of the bur which terminates in a notched bur key formed of a magnetizable material and wherein the second end of the driving shaft includes a cylindrically shaped housing defining a capture cavity and side walls which form a slotted opening which communicates with the capture cavity and with the collet housing passageway to receive and pass the notched bur key end of a bur transported within the collet passageway and to position the notched bur key end adjacent the slotted opening such that rotation of the driving shaft urges the side walls forming the slotted opening into removable driving engagement with the notched bur key end and wherein a magnet is located within the capture cavity for establishing a magnetic field which encloses the slotted opening and which has a flux density of sufficient magnitude to magnetically couple the magnetizable material forming the notched bur key end to removably hold the notched bur key end of the bur within the slotted opening independent of the driving engagement between the side walls forming the slotted opening and the notch of the notched bur key end is shown.

Rotary driving apparatus having a collet with a magnetic latching

A small housing which may be held in the hand of a surgeon has an open ended socket into which a rotary bur assembly may be inserted and latched in place. A driven gear on the rotary bur assembly meshes with a driving gear at the end of the socket. The rotary bur assembly includes a sleeve supporting the bur on axially spaced bearings, and the sleeve has an external annular shoulder. A latch moves through a side window in the housing to engage the annular shoulder to hold the gears in proper mesh, and a spring prevents accidental disengagement of the latch.
