A hydraulic rotary gearless actuator includes an input stage and an output stage. The input stage includes a piston linearly translatable within an input cylinder. The output stage includes first and second output cylinders defining first and second tracks, respectively, and a trunnion assembly connected to the piston and including first and second rollers engageable with the first and second tracks, respectively. The output stage is configured to convert linear translation of the piston into rotation of the first output cylinder relative to the second output cylinder by the trunnion assembly being driven linearly by the linear translation of the piston and the first and second rollers engaging with the first and second tracks, respectively.

Hydraulic rotary gearless actuator

A rotary actuator includes: a shaft; a first threaded portion and a second threaded portion formed on the shaft and axially spaced from each other. A first nut is mounted for movement along the first threaded portion and a second nut is mounted for movement along the second threaded portion. A plurality of first and second components extend radially outward from the first and second nut. An earth sleeve and an output sleeve extend around the shaft and the first and second nuts. The shaft is configured to be driven to rotate about a longitudinal axis thereof relative to the earth sleeve. The earth sleeve comprises a plurality of axially extending earth guides. The output sleeve comprises a plurality of first guides and a plurality of second guides. Each first component engages with a respective first guide and a respective earth guide for movement there along.

Rotary actuator

A drive system for an actuator comprises first and second motors, and first and second input shafts connected to be driven by the respective first and second motors. Each of the first and second input shafts comprises a first overrunning clutch configured to rotate with the input shaft in a first direction, and a second overrunning clutch configured to rotate with the input shaft in a second direction. A first drive gear is configured to be driven by either one of the first overrunning clutches, and a second drive gear is configured to be driven by either one of the second overrunning clutches, and an output clutch and an output shaft are arranged to be driven by the first drive gear in a first mode of operation of the drive system and be driven by the second drive gear in a second mode of operation of the drive system.

Dual motor drive system for actuator

A ball nut and screw assembly includes a screw, and a nut received on the screw. A first raceway having a helical portion is defined between a convex groove of the screw and a concave groove of the nut. The first raceway has adjacent concave grooves to provide said helical portion. A first plurality of balls are in said first raceway, and a first radial outboard raceway is provided at a first end of the first raceway and a second radial outboard raceway provided at a second end of said first raceway. The first and second outboard radial raceways are formed between a concave groove formed in a first outboard component and the outermost, external surface of the screw that is in a position between said adjacent grooves of said screw and at least a first bearing ball is provided in said first radial outboard raceway.

Radial bearing system for ball nut and screw assembly

An actuator system for actuating movement of a control surface of an aircraft wing includes a common input rail connectable to a means for providing movement to said input rail. The system also includes: a plurality of rotary geared actuators 'RGAs'; a common output rail connectable to said control surface; wherein each of said plurality of RGAs is connected to said input rail by an individual input clutch and also connected to said output rail by an individual output clutch, and wherein the input clutch functions independently of the output clutch.

Rotary actuation for thin wing applications

A leadscrew assembly includes a screw shaft along which is formed a first helical groove and a primary nut along which is form a second helical groove. The first helical groove and the second helical groove cooperate to define a track. The assembly also includes a secondary nut along which is formed a third helical groove. The first helical groove and the third helical groove cooperate to define a track with a nominal running clearance. A preload X is provided wherein when a load applied to the screw exceeds the predetermined preload, the secondary nut engages with the track such that load of the screw above preload X is transferred through the secondary nut and thus protecting the primary nut.

Lead screw assembly

An actuation system is provided comprising an electric motor having a motor output shaft, a first actuator and a transmission system linking the electric motor to the first actuator. The transmission system comprises a drive shaft having an input end and an output end, the output end connected to an input of the first actuator, and a torque limiter. The torque limiter is positioned at an upstream end of the transmission system and connects the motor output shaft of the electric motor to an input end of the drive shaft.

A ball screw assembly includes a screw shaft along which is formed a first helical groove; a nut along which is form a second helical groove; the first helical groove and the second helical groove cooperating to define a track, a plurality of balls arranged in the track and configured to move along the track in response to relative motion between the screw shaft and the nut such that rotational motion of the screw is translated to linear motion of the nut via the balls and vice versa. The assembly also includes a bypass shoe arranged between the nut and the track and spaced from the track by a predetermined preload X, wherein when a load applied to the nut exceeds the predetermined preload, the bypass shoe engages with the track such that motion of the screw is transferred to motion of the nut via the shoe and bypasses the balls.

Ball screw assembly

A linear actuator includes a screw shaft comprising a screw thread and having a longitudinal axis A, a nut movable along the screw shaft from a retracted position to an extended position, and a plurality of rollers movable with the nut. Each roller includes a cylindrical surface configured to roll along one or more flanks of the screw thread, such that rotation of the screw shaft causes the rollers to roll along the flank(s) so that the nut translates in an axial direction along the screw shaft. The screw thread has a variable lead angle. The actuator can be part of a power door opening system of an aircraft.

Linear actuator

A linear actuator includes: a screw shaft that has a screw thread and a longitudinal axis A and a nut movable along the screw shaft from a retracted position to an extended position. The actuator also includes a plurality of rollers movable with the nut, each of which includes a cylindrical surface configured to roll along one or more flanks of the screw thread, such that rotation of the screw shaft causes the rollers to roll along the flank(s) so that the nut translates in an axial direction along the screw shaft. The screw thread includes one or more detents (e.g., grooves) configured to lock the nut in one or more axial positions.

A ballscrew assembly comprises a ballnut having a first helical groove and a ballscrew comprising a second helical groove opposed to the first helical groove so as to form a helical raceway. A plurality of balls is disposed in the helical raceway. A first seal is disposed at a first axial end of the ballnut to seal between the ballscrew and the ballnut. A second seal is provided for selectively sealing between the ballscrew and a second axial end of the ballnut, the second seal comprising a ballscrew seal mounted for axial movement with the ballscrew, and configured to make sealing engagement with the ballnut when the ballscrew is in a first axial position relative to the ballnut to form a chamber between the first and second seals, but not to make sealing engagement with the ballnut when the ballscrew assembly is in a second axial position relative thereto.

Lubrication system for ballscrew actuator

An epicyclic gear system having an epicyclic gear stage that includes a sun gear; a carrier, wherein the carrier comprises a plurality of planet gear axles; a plurality of planet gears, each planet gear being located on one of the planet gear axles; a ring gear. The stage also includes an output shaft, wherein the output shaft is connected to the carrier via a biasing mechanism positioned between the carrier and the output shaft, the biasing mechanism being configured to urge the carrier and the output shaft away from one another.

Epicyclic gear system

A brake device for braking rotation of an input shaft, comprises a selectively operable trigger brake comprising a preloaded torsion spring rotationally coupled to the input shaft but permitting a limited rotational movement between the trigger brake and the input shaft; and a roller jamming mechanism operable upon the relative rotation between the trigger brake and the input shaft exceeding a predetermined amount to stop rotation of the input shaft upon operation of the trigger brake.

Braking device

A re-circulating ballscrew assembly comprises a plurality of balls. A ballnut has a ballnut body with a radially inner surface and a helical ballnut groove formed on the radially inner surface. A ballscrew is disposed within the ballnut, the ballscrew comprising a radially outer surface and a ballscrew groove formed on the outer surface, the ballscrew groove cooperating with the ballnut groove to define a helical raceway for the plurality of balls, the helical raceway having a start point and an end point. The ballscrew assembly comprises a return track for the plurality of balls, the return track disposed radially outward of the radially inner surface of the ballnut and connecting the start point and the end point of the helical raceway. The return track extends at least in part through an annular lubricant bath.

Ballscrew lubrication

An actuator operable to drive a thrust reverser in a gas turbine engine, wherein the thrust reverser comprises first and second translatable sleeves. The actuator comprises a first actuating member moveable so as to translate the first sleeve and a second actuating member moveable so as to translate the second sleeve. The actuator further comprises an interlock arrangement operable in a locked mode in which the first actuating member and second actuating member are locked so as to move together and in an unlocked mode in which at least one of the first actuating member and second actuator member is free to move independently of the other. Operation of the actuator to open or close the thrust reverser comprises a first mode wherein the interlock arrangement is in the locked mode and a second mode wherein the interlock arrangement is in the unlocked mode.
