An SPR sensor comprising a thin conducting layer comprising at least one conductive element formed on a surface of a transparent substrate, a light source that illuminates an interface between the conducting layer and the substrate, a photosensitive surface that generates signals from light reflected from the interface, a flow cell formed with at least one flow channel having a lumen defined by a wall formed from an elastic material and from a region of the conducting layer, and at least one hollow fluid-providing flow control apparatus having a lumen and an orifice communicating with its lumen. Fluid flow is enabled between the flow channel and the lumen of the flow control apparatus by forcing an end of the flow control apparatus through the elastic material so that the orifice communicates with the flow channel lumen.

Surface plasmon resonance sensor

An apparatus for providing a light beam with spatially varying polarization. The apparatus includes: two circumferentially curved reflectors positioned substantially opposite each other, a polarizer positioned in an optical path between the two reflectors, for polarizing light reflected from one reflector before it reaches the other. A non-polarized light beam incident along a given axis on one of the reflectors is radially reflected off that reflector, acquires predetermined polarization from the polarizer and is then reflected off the second reflector to a light beam of spatially varying polarization.

System and method for producing a light beam with spatially varying polarization

An SPR sensor comprising: a thin conducting layer comprising at least one conductive element formed on a surface of a transparent substrate; an illumination system controllable to illuminate an interface between the conducting layer and the substrate; a photosensitive surface that generates signals responsive to light from the light source that is reflected from a region of the interface; a flow cell formed with at least one flow channel having a lumen defined by a wall at least a portion of which is formed from an elastic material and a portion of which is formed by a region of the conducting layer; and at least one hollow needle having an exit orifice communicating with the needle's lumen and wherein fluid flow is enabled between the flow channel and the needle's lumen by puncturing the elastic material with the at least one needle so that the exit orifice communicates with the flow channel lumen.

A method and device for determining the topography of a thin film having a front surface and a back surface. The method comprises: irradiating the film with an incident coherent or partially coherent light beam so as to get two reflected beams, the first reflected beam being reflected from the front surface of the film, and the second beam being reflected from the back surface of the film; creating an interferometric image from a united beam comprising the two reflected beams and a reference beam, the reference beam originating from the incident beam, and made to be substantially parallel to the two reflected beams. The reference beam acquires a phase shift. The interferometric image is created the interference between a combined beam comprising the reference beam and the second reflected beam, and the first reflected beam, thus acquiring information on the topography of the film, that cannot be acquired using the two reflected beams alone.

Determination of thin film topography

A device for measuring simultaneously the phase at each point of an image formed by light reflected from a sample in which the phase has been modified by plasma resonance in a thin conducting layer, the device comprising a thick transparent substrate () on which a thin layer of conducting material is deposited (); a light source (); an interferometer; an imaging means (); and a processing means.

Plasmon resonance phase imaging

A method and apparatus for analyzing an optical image of a scene to determine the spectral intensity of each pixel thereof, by: collecting incident light from the scene; scanning the incident light; passing the scanned light through an interferometer which outputs modulated light corresponding to a predetermined set of linear combinations of the spectral intensity of the light emitted from each pixel; focusing the light outputted from the interferometer on a detector array; and processing the output of the detector array to determine the spectral intensity of each pixel thereof.
