In a camera and method, a scene is captured as an archival image, with the camera set in an initial capture configuration. Then, a plurality of parameters of the scene are evaluated. The parameters are matched to one or more of a plurality of suggested capture configurations to define a suggestion set. User input designating one of the suggested capture configurations of the suggestion set is accepted and the camera is set to the corresponding capture configuration.

Revised recapture camera and method

A camera and method automatically exclude electronic images corresponding to film images in a loaded film unit from first in-first out overwriting. In the method, a set of latent images are captured in the camera. A first subset of electronic images that correspond to the latent images are captured, during the capturing of the latent images. A second subset of electronic images are captured independent of the capturing of the latent images. The memory of the camera is filled to capacity with a plurality of the electronic images. After the memory is filled, the electronic images of the second subset in the memory are replaced on a first in-first out basis and the electronic images of the first subset are retained in the memory.

In a camera and method, a plurality of image pairs is captured. Each image pair includes an archival image of a scene and an initial electronic image of the same scene. The archival image of each pair has a first geometric format. The initial electronic images are stored in memory. A designation of a alternative geometric format different than the first geometric format is recorded in association with selected image pairs. The film unit is removed from the camera. The initial electronic images of the selected image pairs are abridged to the respective alternative geometric formats to provide abridged electronic images. The initial electronic images of the selected image pairs are replaced in memory with respective abridged electronic images.

Hybrid cameras having electronic image conversion to selected geometric formats and methods

A camera, method, and system provide downloaded electronic images that have metadata identifying individual images previously excluded, within the camera, from first in-first out overwriting. In the method, a first plurality of electronic images are captured in the camera and the camera memory is filled to capacity. A second plurality of electronic images are then captured in the camera. Individual tags are selectively assigned to one or more of the electronic images. During the capturing of the second plurality of electronic images, untagged images are replaced in the memory on a first in-first out basis and tagged images are retained in the memory. The tagged and untagged electronic images are downloaded together to provide a set of downloaded images external to the camera. The downloaded images corresponding to the tagged electronic images have retained tags.

In a camera and method, a first electronic image is captured and stored in memory. A second electronic image is then captured. The second electronic image replaces the first electronic image in memory when the camera does not have a film unit loaded and the memory has capacity for storing both images. The second electronic image is stored in memory with the first electronic image when the camera has a film unit loaded and the memory has capacity for storing both images.

In a camera and method, a plurality of image pairs are captured. Each image pair has an archival image of a scene and an initial electronic image of the same scene. The archival image of each pair has a first geometric format. The initial electronic images are stored in memory. A designation of a alternative geometric format different than the first geometric format is recorded in association with selected image pairs. The initial electronic images of the selected image pairs are reformatted to respective alternative geometric formats to provide formatted electronic images. The formatted electronic images are downloaded.

In a camera and method, the electronic image initially made available for viewing, following deactivation and reactivation of a display, depends upon the duration of inactivity and the prior electronic image viewed. In the method, a series of electronic images are sequentially captured and stored in memory in a camera. An image display of the camera is then selectively activated. A default image is shown on the display responsive to the activating. The display is selectively switched to a user selected image following the showing of the default image. The display is deactivated at the end of a display deactivation time period and selectively reactivated following the deactivating. The default image is shown, responsive to the reactivating, when the deactivating is prior to the switching. The user selected image is shown, responsive to the reactivating, when the deactivating follows the switching and the reactivating is during a first time period following the deactivating. The default image is shown, responsive to the reactivating, when the deactivating follows the switching and the reactivating is during a second time period following the first time period.

Camera having single-button timed display of most-recently viewed image and default display of last verification image and method

In a hybrid camera and method, the number of stored electronic images protected from overwriting is not fixed, but instead changes depending upon the film unit used in the camera. In the method, a first film unit is loaded in the camera. The first film unit has a first quantity of available film frames. An equal quantity of corresponding electronic images is less than the capacity of memory in the camera. The first quantity is determined by the camera and a tag number is set to an integer value equal to or less than the difference between the image capacity, in units of space for individual ones of the electronic images, and the first quantity. A plurality of electronic images are captured in the camera and stored in the memory. Individual tags are selectively assigned to one or more of the electronic images. The first film unit is removed and a second film unit is loaded in the camera. The second film unit has a second quantity of available film frames that is less than the image capacity. The second quantity is determined. The tag number is then reset to an integer value that is equal to or less than the difference between the image capacity and the second quantity. A warning is displayed when the tag number is less than the number of tagged images.

Hybrid film-electronic camera having a dynamic number of stored electronic images protected from overwriting and method

A camera has a body and a capture system disposed in the body. The capture system is actuable to capture an archival image and an assessment image. The capture system defines a different field of view for each of those images. The field of view of the assessment image is larger than the field of view of the archival image. A display unit mounted on the body, shows a first portion of the assessment image corresponding to the field of view of the archival image and is selectively switchable to show a second portion of the assessment image that is non-concentric with the field of view of the archival image. In a method using the camera, an electronic image defining the assessment field of view is captured; then the different portions of the assessment field of view are selectively displayed in alternation.

A camera has a body and a capture system mounted in the body. The capture system defines a photographic scene, An evaluator assesses a plurality of parameters for capture of the scene. A look-up table matches the parameters to one or more of a plurality of editorial suggestions to define a suggestion set. A display unit is selectively actuable to show depictions of the editorial suggestions of the suggestion set. In a method, the capture system of the camera defines a scene and an electronic image having a field of view inclusive of the scene is captured and evaluated. Responsive to the evaluating, one or more editorial suggestions relating to capture are displayed on the camera.

In a method and camera, a scene is captured as an original electronic image. The original electronic image is stored as an archival image in memory in the camera. A plurality of parameters of the scene are evaluated. The parameters are matched to one or more of a plurality of editorial suggestions to define a suggestion set. One or more editorial suggestion images are generated. Each editorial suggestion image is a copy of the original electronic image modified in accordance with a respective editorial suggestion. The editorial suggestion images are displayed. User input is accepted designating one depictions as a user selection. The user input is recorded for later use in preparation of a final image or the stored archival image is edited in accordance with the selected suggestion.

Image revising camera and method

In cameras and methods, a plurality of image pairs are captured. Each image pair has an archival image in a film unit and a corresponding electronic image. The electronic images are stored in memory disposed in the camera independent of the film unit. Photofinishing metadata is generated for the image pairs. The metadata is written to both the film unit and the memory, in association with corresponding images. The film unit is removed from the camera. The metadata in the memory is irreversibly erased concurrent with the removal. The corresponding electronic images are retained following the erasing.

One or more of the electronic images are downloaded to provide downloaded files. Photofinishing metadata is excluded from the downloaded files.
