Single-use integral chromatography unit having an inlet and an outlet, and comprising one or more plates or pairs of filter plates interposable between a pair of end plates. In certain embodiments, each of the filter plates comprises a polymeric framework with one or more membranes supported therein. The filter plates and end plates may be assembled to form a substantially fixed, substantially water-tight, integral stack. Fluid entering the unit through a common inlet passes the membrane or membranes of each filter plate substantially contemporaneously prior to exiting the unit through a common outlet (cf, 'parallel' flow). The assembly is a modular design, as multiple pairs of plates can be stacked in a suitable holder to form a single chromatography unit.

The present disclosure relates to a filter capsule that supports direct integrity testing of an internal filter element. The filter capsule includes a filter housing having an inlet port, an outlet port, a passage running longitudinally between the inlet port and outlet port and holding a filter element, and an aseptic vent assembly. The filter housing also includes an integrity test assembly that can be used as a direct connection for integrity testing hardware, as opposed to upstream of the filter capsule. In one embodiment, the integrity test assembly comprises a body having a bore formed through its interior and a movable plunger within the bore. The plunger includes a handle to move the plunger between a closed position and an open position. Various seals between the plunger and the bore form a fluid tight seal between various portions of the plunger and the bore.

Tangential flow filtration device is provided wherein liners are provided between the filtration element and the top and bottom holders or manifolds. The liners incorporate the flow channels and inlet and outlet ports that were previously present in the manifolds. The liners are made of an inexpensive material and therefore are disposable after a single use, making it more cost effective to dispose of them than to clean the conventional manifolds. In addition, the liners can be pre-sterilized.

A filtration cartridge is provided comprising one or a stack of filtration units sealed to each other at their outer periphery and to end caps thereby eliminating the need for a housing surrounding the stack. Fluid pathways are provided so that filtration of all incoming feed is assured prior to passing from the cartridge as filtrate. Two permeate pathways are provided to direct permeate to an outlet from the filtration cartridge.

An integrated system and method are disclosed for filtering a fluid and for dispensing a desired volume of the fluid. The integrated system includes a feed pump sub-assembly for receiving fluid and for directing the fluid through a filter. A filtration sub-assembly is joined with the feed pump sub-assembly for receiving fluid from the feed pump sub-assembly and for housing the filter. A dispense pump sub-assembly is integrally joined with the filtration sub-assembly and defines a dispense chamber for receiving filtered fluid from the filtration sub-assembly. The dispense pump sub-assembly includes a dispensing means which is moveable from a fill position to a purge position for purging at least a portion of any gas bubbles from the dispense chamber. The gas bubbles are purged through a purge outlet disposed above a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet of the dispense chamber. The dispensing means is also moveable from the purge position to a dispense position for dispensing a desired volume of the fluid from the integrated system.
