A tire and wheel rim assembly includes a tire supporting rim having an outward facing mounting surface and at least one tire body mounted to the rim and positioning an internal tire cavity over the rim mounting surface. A tire pressure monitoring module assembly mounts to the rim mounting surface and includes a housing having an internal pressure chamber; a pressure sensing device and/or a temperature measuring sensor within the housing pressure chamber; and an elongate connecting member extending through the housing and the rim mounting surface. The connecting member has an axial through-passageway communicating with the internal tire cavity and the housing pressure chamber. The connecting member may be configured as an externally threaded bolt having an axial through-passageway. The bolt is in threaded engagement with a threaded opening in the housing and extends through the rim outside mounting surface to couple the housing to the rim. The inflation pressure in the tire cavity is transferred through the axial passageway of the threaded bolt to the pressure chamber within the module housing. The tire pressure monitoring module assembly, attached to the rim outward mounting surface, is positioned in a non-contacting relationship with the one or more tire bodies mounted to side of the rim opposite the rim mounting surface.

Rim mounted tire pressure monitoring system

A system and method for post-cure application of electronics to a tire includes: a first stage assembly in which an ends of an annular antenna wire are positioned within conductive grommets in a base member; a second stage in which a plug is affixed to the base member to hold the antenna ends in place during shaping and curing of the antenna wire into a tire; and a third stage in which the plug is replaced by a tag carrier, the carrier including means for establishing and maintaining electrical contact between the antenna ends and the tag.

System and method for post-cure application of electronics to a tire

A tire initiated vehicle control system for vehicles is described. The vehicles have vehicle components including a power train a suspension system a steering mechanism a plurality of wheel brake mechanisms one wheel brake mechanism being at each wheel position and location, a fuel or vehicle speed throttle with or without a cruise control system, the vehicle control system has a tire pressure detection device and a control means which preferably has a computer for receiving data from the tire pressure detection device The control means processes the received tire pressure data and upon a preset pressure or rate of change value in tire pressure the control means directs a change in response rates of one or more of the above listed vehicle components.

Tire initiated vehicle control system

A circular cylindrical elastomeric member is formed with an annular recess and two spaced apart pockets in communication with the recess. An outer metal tube receives an inner ring in interference fit in the tube bore, the ring having at least one peripheral depression in an outer surface and a pair of spaced apertures through the ring each communicating with a different corresponding aperture forming at least one channel communicating with the pockets and apertures which are congruent with the pockets. The member is axially forced into the ring and outer tube while submerged in an imcompressible hydraulic fluid to radially compress and elongate the member during member insertion and fill the channel and pockets with the fluid. The ring seats in the member recess. An inner tube is then axial forced into the bore of the elastomeric member and locked to the member by the radial compressive forces without vulcanization or a bonding agent.

Fluid-filled elastomeric suspension bushing

A vibration damping device of the bushing-type includes a rigid outer housing and a rigid inner member, having a first side and a second side, which is substantially enclosed by the outer housing. A first vibration absorbing resilient body is interposed between the first side of the inner member and the outer housing. The first body is made of an elastomeric material having a first spring rate. A second vibration absorbing resilient body is interposed between the second side of the inner member and the outer housing. The second body is made of an elastomeric material having a second spring rate which is different from the first spring rate such that a deflection of the rigid inner member toward one of the first and second bodies will be resisted more strongly than a deflection of the rigid inner member toward the other of the first and second bodies. A first fluid chamber is defined in the second body and a second fluid chamber is defined between the second body and the outer housing. The second fluid chamber is in fluid communication with the first chamber through a first fluid passageway. A plate is moveably mounted in the first passageway for movement perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the device. The plate controls a flow of fluid through the first passageway to a varying extent depending upon the position of the plate in the first passageway. A second fluid passageway communicates with the first and second fluid chambers through a circuitous path.

Hydraulic damping bushing

A vibration bushing damping device includes an inner member and an outer member which is axially paralleled to the inner member and which encloses a substantial section of the inner member. A vibration absorbing resilient body is interposed between the inner and outer members. The body includes a first fluid holding chamber. A second fluid holding chamber is defined between the resilient body and the outer member. The second fluid chamber communicates with the first fluid chamber through a first fluid passageway. A rigid body is movably mounted in the first fluid passageway for controlling fluid flow through the first passageway to a varying extent depending on the position of the rigid body. A second fluid flow path is also provided for the fluid in the first fluid chamber.
