A tibial insert includes an articular surface and a bottom surface opposite the articular surface. The bottom surface includes one or more bone-conserving features. In some embodiments, the bottom surface may be curved to match a curvature of the articular surface such that a thickness of the tibial insert is relatively constant. In other embodiments, the bottom surface may be relatively planar but include a protrusion extending from a planar base surface to maintain a minimum thickness of the tibial insert. The described features may be incorporated in a uni-compartmental tibial prosthesis, a bi-compartmental tibial prosthesis, or a total knee prosthesis.

An orthopaedic system includes a tibial insert and a femoral component configured to articulate on the tibial insert. The tibial insert includes a pair of articular surfaces spaced apart by a post. The femoral component includes a pair of femoral condyles spaced apart by a notch in which a cam is located. During flexion, the cam of the femoral component is configured to contact the post of the tibial insert. The dwell point of the medial articular surface of the tibial insert is located, relative to the contact point between the post and tibial insert, to improve stability of the femoral component.

An orthopaedic system includes a tibial insert and a femoral component configured to articulate on the tibial insert. The tibial insert includes an articular surface, and the femoral component includes a femoral articular surface having decreasing radii of curvature posteriorly. The articular surface of the tibial insert includes an increased anterior lip to improve stability of the femoral component.

An orthopaedic knee prosthesis includes a tibial insert and a femoral component configured to articulate on the tibial insert. The tibial insert includes a lateral articular surface and medial articular surface that is asymmetrically shaped relative to the lateral articular surface. The medial articular surface is shaped to reduce anterior translation of a medial condyle of the femoral component, while the lateral articular surface is shaped to allow a lateral condyle of the femoral component to pivot, relative to the medial articular surface, along an arcuate articular path. Additionally, one or both condyles of the femoral component may include a femoral articular surface having a curved femoral surface section defined by a continuously decreasing radius of curvature.

A modular patient positioning system includes: a first pegboard having a first pegboard hole; a second pegboard rotatably coupled to the first pegboard and having a second pegboard hole, the first pegboard and second pegboard lying along a common plane in a first configuration and the first pegboard and second pegboard lying along different planes in a second configuration. A first body portion and a second body portion of a patient's body may be positioned and supported in different planes by having the first pegboard support the first body portion and the second pegboard support the second body portion; and a leg positioner including a mounting structure for mounting the leg positioner on the second pegboard and positioning a leg in a predetermined position relative to the second pegboard. The mounting structure of the leg positioner allows for adjusting axial rotation, abduction/adduction, elevation/depression, and/or flexion/extension of the leg.

An orthopaedic system includes an insert defining an anterior-posterior centerline and including: a medial half on one side of the centerline and defining a medial shape, the medial half having a medial articular surface defining a medial dwell region; and a lateral half on an opposite side of the centerline and defining a lateral shape that differs from the medial shape, the lateral half having a lateral articular surface. A femoral component includes a medial condylar portion bearing on the medial articular surface and a lateral condylar portion bearing on the lateral articular surface. The insert is configured to substantially limit anterior-posterior translation of the femoral component and define a pivot axis that extends through the medial dwell region. The insert is configured such that rotation of the lateral articular surface follows an arcuate path about the pivot axis.

An orthopaedic prosthesis includes a tibial tray, a tibial insert configured to be coupled to the tibial tray, a hinge component configured to be received in a passageway of the tibial tray, and a femoral component configured to articular with the tibial insert. The hinge component includes a pair of hinge arms, each of which includes an axle extending therefrom that is configured to be received in an aperture of a corresponding sidewall of an intercondylar compartment of the femoral component. The axles of the hinge arms may be coaxial or non-coaxial. Additionally, each axle may be coaxial with or offset from a center of a constant radius of curvature that defines an articular surface of a corresponding condyle of the femoral component. The axles may have an outer surface of various shapes depending on the embodiment.

A tibial implant includes one or more stiffness-modifying features to reduce the stiffness of one or more sections of the tibial implant. The stiffness-modifying features may include slots, recesses, or passageways defined in various locations of the tibial implant to selectively reduce the stiffness of a tibial insert and/or tibial base of the tibial implant.

A surgical planning computing system and related surgical method include identifying an anatomical landmark of a patient's bony anatomy in a three-dimensional anatomical image and determining positioning criteria for an orthopedic prosthesis to be implanted into the patient's bony anatomy. The positioning criteria may define an alignment between the anatomical landmark and a feature of the orthopaedic prosthesis. A three-dimensional model of the orthopaedic prosthesis is positioned in the three-dimensional model based on the positioning criteria to provide a surgical plan for the implantation of the orthopaedic prosthesis.

A rail assembly for a knee positioning system that includes a base and a pair of rails removably coupled to the base. Each of the rails defines a plurality of positioning slots formed therein, each of the positioning slots being at least partially aligned with a corresponding positioning slot of the other rail. At least one of the rails and the base form at least one cleanout channel therebetween that is configured to receive a cleaning fluid for removing contaminants that collect on the at least one rail and the base.

A knee joint prosthesis for a tibia and femur can include a tibial component, a tibial bearing, and a post. The tibial bearing can include a first bearing portion, a second bearing portion, and an aperture. The first bearing portion can be positionable on a first side of the sagittal axis and can have a first shape. The second bearing portion can be positionable on a second side can have a second shape different than the first shape. The post, together with the first bearing portion and the second bearing portion, can be configured to promote the femur to pivot substantially about the first bearing portion.
