Separation distances between a platform and an air or weather anomaly such as a wake vortex are obtained. Airspeeds of the air or weather anomalies are detected. Maximum airspeeds determined from different detection paths may result one or more airspeed differentials. The one or more airspeed differentials may be used to determine a calculated separation distance. A position of the platform may be maintained or maneuvered relative to the air or weather anomaly based on the calculated separation distance. Control commands may be output to a vehicle control system to perform, direct, or display a navigational solution including maneuvering relative to the air or weather anomaly, where the vehicle control system may include a graphics controller, a flight control system, a flight management system, or an autopilot.

Systems and methods for use in navigating aircraft are provided. A method includes transmitting messages from a plurality of aircraft within time slots of a data transmission using a data link radio of each of the aircraft. The time slots of the data transmission are divided by time. The master aircraft transmits a message within a first time slot. Each message includes position data, time data, aircraft orientation data, and intended flight path data for the aircraft transmitting the message. The method further includes, for each of the plurality of aircraft, receiving a plurality of received messages transmitted by the other aircraft within the data transmission, and generating a representation of an environment around the aircraft based on the data within the received messages. The representation includes a current position and an intended path for one or more of the other aircraft.

A method of designating and communicating a desired LZ to an aircraft includes outputting a coded laser signal at or near a desired landing zone to indicate a location of the desired landing zone. The coded laser signal is received by an aircraft that desires to land at the desired landing zone. The location of the desired landing zone and an ingress path from a current location of the aircraft to the desired landing zone are determined by a processor provided with the aircraft.
