Air supply apparatus for an air mattress

A mattress assembly for supporting a patient includes a body support portion having a head end, a foot end, and a knee support portion. The body support portion has a first air zone extending from the head end to the knee support portion and a second air zone extending from the knee support portion to the foot end. The mattress assembly also includes a control module configured to supply air to the first and second air zones to maintain the first air zone at a substantially constant first pressure and to maintain the second air zone at a substantially constant second pressure. The second pressure is less than the first pressure to provide reduced pressure on a patient's calves and feet located on the second air zone.

A mattress assembly for supporting a patient is provided that includes a cover and a plurality of air bladders positioned in an interior region of the cover. A mattress apparatus is provided for use on a bed frame having at least one siderail movable from an up position to a down position. The apparatus includes a support surface, an electrical controller configured to control the support surface, and a siderail down sensor configured to be coupled to one of the bed frame and siderail. The siderail down sensor is electrically coupled to the controller. The siderail down sensor is configured to generate an output signal indicating that the siderail of the bed frame is in the down position.

The inflatable structure preferably has two components: a) lower inflatable layer which is selectively operable to provide basic support for the patient and which includes a plurality of laterally offset zone which may be independently inflatable to control rotation of the patient. A bed footboard has a main body with a cavity that is configured to receive a panel and a pocket member behind the panel to store patient records. The panel is pivotally mounted in the cavity to permit access to the pocket member and records held in the pocket. The panel is slidable in the pivotal mounting and has a retaining lip that can be engaged to a retaining flange in the cavity to enable the panel to be retained partially within the cavity and disposed to serve as a writing surface. The panel has a biased retracting mechanism that enables the panel to be released from the pivotal mounting. The main body of the panel has channels in which bolts can be slidably extended above the top surface of the main body. The panel has openings configured to receive the bolts to enable the panel to be mounted above the top surface of the main body and serve as a utility tray.
