An air filter element for removing odors from indoor air having a dry of a mixture of silica gel, activated carbon, and a zeolite. This dry mixture may also be impregnated with a liquid for inhibiting the growth of microorganisms, the liquid being a fungicide/bacteriocide preservative and a polyhydric alcohol, or a grapefruit pulp/polyhydric alcohol reaction product. Also disclosed are novel air filters having these air filter elements and a material for removing particulate matter from indoor air.

Filter element, filter, and method for removing odors from indoor air

An air treatment filter element is produced by contacting an adsorbent material selected from zeolite, activated carbon or a combination thereof with a liquid for inhibiting the growth of microorganisms. Additionally, the adsorbent material may include silica gel. Preferably, the liquid includes a fungicide/bacteriocide preservative composition in an amount from about 0.5 to 2% by weight of the liquid, at least one polyhydric alcohol, the polyhydric alcohol being present in an amount from about 83 to 99.5% by weight of the liquid, and at least one additional compound for modifying the vapor pressure of the polyhydric alcohol, the additional compound being present in an amount from about 0 to 15% by weight of the liquid. The amount of liquid used is from about 5 to 50%, most preferably 20 to about 30%, by weight of the combined weight of the liquid and adsorbent material.

Therapeutic compositions for the treatment of acne which comprise from about 0.1% to about 5% by weight naringin, from about 0.1% to about 10% by weight naringenin, from about 0.05% to about 5% by weight of an antimicrobially active partially hydrolyzed naringin, from about 0.01% to about 5% weight colloidal silica, and from about 80% to 97% by weight of a solvent.

A process for the production of antimicrobial compositions from naturally occurring flavanoid glycosides. Flavanoid glycosides are acid hydrolyzed under substantially quiescent condition at a temperature within the range of about 60.degree. C. and about 100.degree. C. for a sufficient time to hydrolyze the flavanoid glycoside to partially hydrolyzed flavanoid compositions having antimicrobial activity.

An improved animal litter is disclosed which slowly, continuously and uniformly releases an odor control agent, comprising a suitable absorbent material admixed with a vehicle which has been previously impregnated with an odor control agent. A method for imparting long lasting, continuous, uniform, slowly released odor controlling properties to any suitable absorbent material is also disclosed.
