A release coating composition is prepared comprising a polyorganosiloxane (A) having alkenyl groups, a crosslinking agent (B) having organohydrogensiloxane groups, a catalyst for the hydrosilylation reaction between (A) and (B), and an anchorage additive for enhancing the adhesion of the composition to a polymer film substrate. The anchorage additive is the reaction product of a fluid polyorganosiloxane (C) containing at least one alkenyl group and at least one silanol group with a hydrolysable silane (D) containing at least one epoxide group. The curable silicone release coating composition can be applied to a substrate known as a 'liner' retaining a label, which liner can for example be paper or a polymer film, and cured.

Silicone release coating compositions

Silicone pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) compositions and methods for their preparation are provided. In one embodiment, PSAs are formed from a silicone polymer mixture by condensation polymerization of low viscosity polyorganosiloxanes in inert solvents and/or silicone fluids, and optionally adding a silicone resin (MQ) during polymerization. The silicone polymer mixture formed may also be mixed with a silicone resin (MQ) and bodying catalyst, and bodying is allowed to continue until the desired reaction product is formed.

A composition containing (A) a compound having at least one aliphatic unsaturation; (B) a cyclic organohydrogen-silicon crosslinking compound containing at least one silicon-bonded hydrogen atom (Sift) per molecule, prepared by a platinum catalyzed coupling reaction of a methylhydrogen cyclosiloxane, with a reactant containing aliphatic unsaturation, hydroxy functionalities, or a mixture of both; and (B1) a linear or branched acyclic organohydrogensilicon Crosslinking compound containing at least one silicon-bonded hydrogen atom per molecule. The composition can be used to prepare release coating compositions by adding (C) a platinum group metal-containing catalyst. Release coating compositions containing Components (B) and (B1) have better cure, better adhesion, and lower release forces, than release coating compositions containing only Component (B).

Release coating compositions having improved release force profiles

A release coating composition according to the present invention comprises an alkenyl functional polysiloxane (1), a silicon hydride functional polysiloxane (11) and a catalyst (111) comprising a platinum group metal. The alkenyl functional polysiloxane (1) is an alkenylterminated polysiloxane prepared by siloxane polycondensation and/or equilibration using a phosphazene base catalyst followed by neutralisation with an acidic neutralising agent. The level of catalyst (III) in the composition can be as low as 2-40 parts per million platinum group metal by weight.

This invention relates to a macromonomer and a method for its preparation. The macromonomer has one or more silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms at one molecular chain terminal, and one or more aliphatically unsaturated silicon-bonded organic groups at the other molecular chain terminal. This invention further relates to a method of forming a hyperbranched polymer by polymerizing the macromonomer with a group VIII metal catalyst. The hyperbranched polymers can be used as surfactants, gelling agents, drug delivery systems, and polymeric absorbents.

Hyperbranched polymers and methods for the preparation, cure, and stabilization thereof

This invention relates to a macromonomer and a method for its preparation. The macromonomer has silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms at one molecular chain terminal, and aliphatically unsaturated silicon-bonded organic groups at the other molecular chain terminal. This invention further related to a method of forming a hyperbranched polymer by polymerizing the macromonomer with a group VIII metal catalyst. The hyperbranched polymers can be used as surfactants, gelling agents, drug delivery systems, and polymeric absorbents.

A method for preparing an aminoalkoxysiloxane comprises reacting a siloxane having at least one Si--X bond with an aminoalcohol of the general formula HO--R--NR.sup.1.sub.2 and removing HX from the reaction mixture, wherein X is a hydrogen atom, an --OH group or an --OC(O)NR.sup.1.sub.2 group, R is a divalent substituted or unsubstituted alkylene or arylene group, and R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having from one to eighteen carbon atoms. The siloxane and aminoalcohol are preferably HO(Me.sub.2 SiO).sub.4.5 H and ethanolamine, (Me.sub.3 SiO).sub.2 MeSiH and ethanolamine, isopropanolamine or 3-aminopropan-1-ol, or Me.sub.3 SiO(Me.sub.2 SiO).sub.3 (MeHSiO).sub.5 SiMe.sub.3 and isopropanolamine respectively. The aminoalkoxysiloxanes thus prepared are useful for treating textile fabrics.

A film-forming copolymer is formed by copolymerising 100 parts of a curable polyurethane resin and 10 to 100 parts of an organosilicon compound, consisting essentially of SiO.sub.2, R.sub.3 SiO.sub.1/2 and R'R.sub.2 SiO.sub.1/2 units, the ratio of monovalent units to tetravalent units being from 0.4/1 to 2/1 and from 40 to 90% of all monovalent units being R'R.sub.2 SiO.sub.1/2 units. R is a monovalent hydrocarbon group having up to 8 carbons and R' denotes a OH-terminated polyoxyalkylene group. The invention also includes a method of making fabrics waterproof and permeable to water vapour by coating it with such copolymer.

A method of treating fibrous materials comprises applying a polydiorganosiloxane having at least one unit (a) of the general formula ##STR1## and at least one unit (b) of the general formula ##EQU1## wherein R is a hydroxyl, monovalent hydrocarbon or hydrocarbonoxy group, R' is a divalent hydrocarbon group which optionally contains oxygen and/or nitrogen, R' is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group optionally containing an oxygen atom in the form of a hydroxyl group and/or a C.dbd.O group, a is 1 or 2, b 2 or 3 and each n from 2 to 8. Treated fibrous materials have improved softness with improved non-yellowing characteristics.

Method of treating fibrous materials

The specification describes and claims certain organosilicon compounds and the preparation thereof. The organosilicon compounds comprise (A) a silane according to the general formula R.sup.1.sub.a A.sub.b Si(R'NXR').sub.c or (B) a polysiloxane comprising one or more siloxane units according to the general formula (i) ##EQU1## any remaining units of the polysiloxane being at least predominantly according to the general formula (ii) ##EQU2## A represents a hydroxyl or a hydrolyzable group, R.sup.1 represents a monovalent hydrocarbon group having up to 8 carbon atoms, R.sup.2 represents a hydroxyl group, a group R.sup.1, a group OR.sup.1 or a group COR.sup.1, R.sup.4 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, an alkenyl group or an aryl group, R' represents a group R.sup.4 or a group X, R' represents a divalent hydrocarbon group which may have nitrogen, oxygen or sulphur present in the carbon chain, X represents a group CO(CHR).sub.n OH in which R represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, a has the value 0, 1, or 2, b has the value 1, 2, or 3, c has the value 1 or 2, the sum of a+b+c=4, m has the value 0, 1 or 2, p has the value 1 or 2, q has the value 0, 1, 2 or 3, r has the value 0, 1 or 2, and n has a value in the range 2 to 7. The organosilicon compounds are useful in compositions for treating fabrics.

Organosilicon compounds

Organosilicon compounds having at least one unit of the general formula ##STR1## in which R represents alkyl, R' is a divalent alkylene, oxyalkylene, alkenylene or oxyalkenylene, Z represents an alkyl, alkoxy or hydroxyl group, a has a value of 0, 1, 2, or 3 and c is 0 or 1, wherein at least one of Z and R' is linked to the multivalent aryl group via an ether linkage, are useful for absorbing UV radiation. Especially if polymeric (with e.g. diorganosiloxane units) they can be incorporated in sunscreen preparations to improve their substantivity to the skin. A process for preparing the compounds is also disclosed.
