According to the present invention there is provided an active vibration control system comprising: an electromagnetic actuator and a control element, the electromagnetic actuator being operable to apply a force on a base structure to which the active vibration control system is attachable such that vibrations of the base structure are actively controllable by the application of said force, wherein the electromagnetic actuator and control element are relatively moveable such that the active vibration control system has at least two modes of vibration, and wherein movement of the electromagnetic actuator causes movement of at least a part of the control element.

Vibration control systems

A structural damper () having an acoustic black hole (), at least one sensor (), a damper structure (), an actuator () configured to apply an actuating force to the damper structure () and a controller (H) configured to control the actuator in dependence on a signal from the at least one sensor so as to provide structural damping of a primary structure ().

Structural damper

The present invention concerns electromechanical actuators. More particularly, but not exclusively, this invention concerns actuators operable in multiple degrees of freedom. There is provided an actuator comprising a proof-mass and at least two coils arranged such that current flowing through the coil produces a force that acts on the proof-mass, the proof-mass being mounted for movement in at least two degrees of freedom, wherein one of the at least two degrees of freedom is a translational degree of freedom.

Relating to electromechanical actuators

A machine is on a first side of a plate. A cable, a bundle of cables, a pipe carrying a fluid to or from the machine, a conduit, or any combination of these, passes along or through the plate. The plate is susceptible to vibrations arising from operation of the machine. An active vibration suppressor is mounted on the cable(s), pipe, or conduit, and a controller is configured to control the active vibration suppressor to suppress vibrations of the plate.

Vibration control

A machine is on a first side of a plate () and a rod () passes along or through the plate (). The plate () is susceptible to vibrations arising from operation of the machine. An active vibration suppressor () is mounted on the rod (), and a controller is configured to control the active vibration suppressor () to suppress vibrations of the plate ().

A support for machinery, and for isolating vibration from the machinery, includes a plurality of mounts, each mount including an elastomeric block for completely supporting the static load of the machinery, and an active isolation element including inertial shakers arranged to effect a zero stiffness of the mount to excited structural resonances over a desired frequency band above the mount resonant frequency, and to modify the transmission of out of balance forces to the hull. A control system coupled to the inertial shakers includes a controller configured to apply damping force signals, such as to dampen structural resonances, to inhibit the onset of resonant vibration.

Vibration isolation

A metamaterial () for attenuating acoustic transmission comprises a plurality of layers (). Each layer () comprises a transmission structure () and a resonator (), coupled to the transmission structure (). The transmission structure () in a layer () is coupled to the transmission structures () of the layers () neighboring said layer (). The resonator () in a layer () is coupled to the transmission structure () of the layers () neighboring said layer ().

Metamaterial
