A document uses a chemically reactive security ink to facilitate security, making it more difficult to alter a genuine security document. The chemically reactive security ink masks a warning word or message on a security document. The hidden warning word or message is revealed when the document is subjected to chemical washing.

A pattern of coating is applied to a label, such that the coating covers the periphery, including a portion of the top surface of the label, and overlaps onto the liner ply area adjacent to the label. The coating is selected to form a stable and resistant film that spans continuously along the label edge and liner surfaces. The coating reduces adhesive ooze when the label is exposed to elevated ambient temperatures and pressures.

A security document production scheme is presented for the creation of a security document including a prismatic multi-color security image. In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, a security document is provided comprising a security image defined on a face of the document. The security image is defined along first and second dimensions by the superposition of a primary security image portion and a secondary security image portion. The primary security image portion is defined by security image elements of a first color. The secondary security image portion is defined by security image elements of a second color. The primary security image portion is arranged to include first, second, and third types of security image segments. The secondary security image portion is arranged to include first, second, and third types of security image segments. The first type of security image segment defines an image element tone that decreases in magnitude along the first dimension of the security image and that maintains a substantially constant magnitude along the second dimension of the security image. The second type of security image segment defines an image element tone that decreases in magnitude along the second dimension of the security image and that maintains a substantially constant magnitude along the first dimension of the security image. The third type of security image segment defines an image element tone that maintains a substantially constant magnitude along the first and second dimensions of the security image. The primary security image portion and the secondary security image portion are superposed such that (i) security image segments of the first type in the primary security image portion are superposed with security image segments of the third type in the secondary image portion, (ii) security image segments of the second type in the primary security image portion are superposed with security image segments of the second type in the secondary image portion, and (iii) security image segments of the third type in the primary security image portion are superposed with security image segments of the first type in the secondary image portion.

Prismatic printing

A printed document includes a print quality indicator on the print surface of the document in the primary printing area. The image of the print quality indicator has a plurality of printed targets, each of the targets defining an unprinted area. The dimensions of the unprinted areas of the targets varying among the targets. The print quality of the printed document is determined by noting which of the unprinted areas in the print quality indicator printed on the document are not clearly free of ink upon close visual inspection of the document. Each target is made up of a printed circle, having a specified outer diameter, a specified line weight, and a specified inner diameter, and a printed circular dot, having a specified diameter, positioned centrally within the printed circle. The specified diameter of the printed circular dot is less than the specified inner diameter of the printed circle such that the printed circular dot and the printed circle define an annular unprinted area there between.

Printed document and method of determining the print quality of a printed document

In a quantity of label-price tag composite forms, each composite form includes two shipping labels and a plurality of price tags associated with each of the shipping labels. The form includes a pair of shipping labels, each shipping label having a top edge, a bottom edge, and a pair of side edges. Each shipping label has one side edge abutting the other shipping label. Each of a pair of price tag sheets has a top edge, a bottom edge, and a pair of side edges. Each price tag sheet is secured at its top edge to the bottom edge of an associated shipping label. The width of each price sheet is less than the width of the shipping label associated therewith. A strip of discard material bridges the space between adjacent side edges of the pair of price tag sheets. The pair of price tag sheets are spaced apart such that the non-adjacent side edges thereof are inwardly of the non-abutting side edges of the pair of shipping labels. A layer of pressure sensitive adhesive is provided on the back side of the shipping labels, the price tag sheets, and the strip of discard material, and a sheet of release material is provided beneath the shipping labels, the price tag sheets, and the strip of discard material.
