A method and system for providing credit for participation in an ad hoc wireless communication network is useful for improving network efficiency. The method includes receiving at a first network node a first data packet transmitted from a second network node (step). The first data packet includes payload data and credit claim data. The first node then determines that the credit claim data should be forwarded to a credit accounting authority (step), so a second data packet is then transmitted from the first node to the credit accounting authority (step). The second data packet includes some of the credit claim data. The first node then transmits a third data packet to a third network node, where the third data packet includes the payload data (step).

Method and system for providing credit for participation in an ad hoc network

A method and a system for switching a mobile device () from a source Base Transceiver Station (BTS) to a target BTS in a mobile network () are disclosed. The method includes detecting an intention to switch the cell transmitted by the mobile device. A Base Station Controller (BSC) () then receives the switch detect time from the source BTS and/or the target BTS. The switch detect time is processed by the BSC to determine the switch time for the mobile device. The mobile device then switches from communication with the source BTS to communication with the target BTS, based on the switch time.

A SIM based authentication process is performed (100) using a subscriber's original SIM (56). That authentication can be extended to a temporary SIM (106) that is substituted for the original SIM throughout the remainder of a flight. Alternatively, the original SIMs (56) may be locked in place and relinquished when a subscriber provides an appropriate PIN.
