A mobile communication device-based corneal topography system includes an illumination system, a mobile communication device and a corneal topography optical housing. The illumination system is configured to generate an illumination pattern and to generate reflections of the illumination pattern off a cornea of a subject, wherein the illumination system is aligned along an axis of centers of the illumination pattern. The mobile communication device includes an image sensor to capture an image of the reflected illumination pattern. The corneal topography optical housing is coupled to the illumination system and the mobile communication device, wherein the corneal topography optical housing supports and aligns the illumination system with the image sensor of the mobile communication device. The corneal topography optical housing includes an imaging system coupled to the image sensor.

Corneal topography system and methods

A corneal topography analysis system includes: an input unit for inputting corneal curvature data; and an analysis unit that determines plural indexes characterizing topography of the cornea based on the input corneal curvature data, the analysis unit further judges corneal topography from features inherent in predetermined classifications of corneal topography using the determined indexes and a neural network so as to judge at least one of normal cornea, myopic refractive surgery, hyperopic refractive surgery, corneal astigmatism, penetrating keratoplasty, keratoconus, keratoconus suspect, pellucid marginal degeneration, or other classification of corneal topography.

Corneal topography analysis system

A laser (e.g., excimer laser) and masking apparatus performs controlled sculpting of eye surfaces, such as corneal surfaces. The masking system includes a single/multi-layer (e.g., metallic) coated substrate (e.g., fused silica) with multiple openings in the substrate of desired size, shape and spacing to control the power transmission of a laser used in conjunction with the mask. The power transmission is controlled through the use of diffraction and absorption. The power transmission can be attuned to a particular surface by using topographical information of the surface in question. The surgeon can observe the topographical information and then pattern the openings (size, number, shape, spacing) so that reshaping can be done with greater intensity (using larger or more openings) to remove more corneal tissue in areas that the surgeon feels need more reshaping. Areas that need less reshaping can be masked complete by not placing holes or openings in that area of the mask, or by placing fewer or smaller openings.

Laser surgical method of sculpting a patient's cornea and associated

A computerized system which enables the contact lens fitter to select a contact lens by specifying its 'base curve' and diameter and then to obtain a visual representation of how that lens would fit the cornea of a specific patient using a simulation of the traditional fluorescein dye procedure. The patient's corneal contours are electronically stored, having been ascertained, for example, using the image scanning technique disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 4,863,260. The contour of the contact lens is positioned to a predetermined point over the contour of the corneal surface and iteratively rotated about two axes to establish a minimum average clearance. At this point, the clearance is depicted by a color display analogous to that which would be obtained using the actual contact lens on the patient's cornea with the fluorescein dye.
