A downhole tool including multiple orifices defining at least a first and a second flow path, and a valve that adjusts to change a ratio of fluid flow between the first and second flow paths, the valve being offset from the multiple orifices by a gap that is adjustable to customize a sensitivity of the change to each adjustment. A method for regulating flow along a first fluid path in a downhole tool includes adjusting a valve relative to multiple orifices that define the first fluid path and a second fluid path, said adjusting changing a ratio of fluid flow between the first and second flow paths, and adjusting a gap between the valve and the multiple orifices to modify a sensitivity of the change to each adjustment.

A screw thread measurement system and methods may comprise a frame having a reference surface, a carrier coupled to the frame and configured to translate relative to the frame, a dimension measurement system coupled to the carrier and having a thread contact element configured to translate relative to the frame and orthogonally the translation axis of the carrier. Systems and methods divide flow in a wellbore into a plurality of flow paths. A first one of the flow paths extends to a down-hole turbine that is responsive to fluid flow to provide rotational motion to an electric generator or other down-hole tool. A second flow path may extend to an independent down-hole tool, to a port communicating with the wellbore, to a bypass channel extending around the turbine, or to any other down-hole location. The turbine includes a stator having adjustable blades such that an open flow area through the turbine may be selectively controlled. A flow distribution between the first and second flow paths can be controlled where specific flow areas are needed at specific flow rates, for example.

Directional control of a rotary steerable drilling assembly can be facilitated by a flow control module for maintaining a geostationary position or orientation of components of the assembly. The drilling assembly can include a bit shaft and an offset mandrel for adjusting a longitudinal axis of the bit shaft. A drive mechanism can rotate the offset mandrel independently of the bit shaft to maintain the offset mandrel in a geostationary position or orientation relative to a formation of the earth and/or a wellbore. A flow control module controllably directs a fluid flow to the drive mechanism. The flow control module can include an inner body and an outer body, defining an annulus there between and one or more blades within the annulus, each of the blades being rotatable to provide a range of angles with respect to a longitudinal axis of the flow control module.

A method and system for monitoring operation of a motor may include initially determining a no load torque versus temperature characteristic of the motor over a range of operating temperatures. After a period of operation, a no load torque value and temperature of the motor may be determined. Motor temperature may be measured by a local thermistor or the like. Motor torque may be determined from measured motor current. The motor torque and temperature may then be compared to the initial torque versus temperature characteristic to determine a change in load of said motor due to break down of motor oil, worn bearings, or similar condition. In some embodiment, the method and system may be used with a downhole tool for drilling a well, such as a rotary steerable system.
