According to the present invention, improved techniques for switching current flow in a display column driver circuit. Embodiments provide switching of analog outputs of digital to analog converters in order to drive columns of an LCD. Embodiments can provide a full range of voltage output to drive an LCD without necessitating a full range amplifier configuration. Further, many embodiments can be realized in smaller space on an IC chip than in conventional technologies.

The present invention provides improved techniques for controlling current flow in an amplifier circuit. Specific embodiments provide steering of analog outputs of digital to analog converters in order to drive columns of an LCD display. Embodiments can provide a full range of voltage output to drive an LCD display without necessitating a full range amplifier configuration. Further, many specific embodiments can be realized in smaller space on an IC chip than in conventional technologies.

Current steering circuit for amplifier

An apparatus for enhancing the slew rate of a differential amplifier capable of producing an output voltage and including a load stage, includes: a gain enhancement stage coupled to the load stage; a current comparator coupled to the differential amplifier and capable to compare a reference current value with a comparison current value; and a current mirror coupled to the current comparator and to the differential amplifier and capable to generate a slew rate enhancement bias current to enhance the slew rate of the output voltage when the comparison current value is greater the reference current value.

A digital-to-analog converter is disclosed, which includes a decoder stage having a decoder output capable of receiving input data, a level shifter stage coupled to the decoder output capable of shifting the level of the decoder output, an output stage communicatively coupled to the level shifter stage capable of responding based upon an output value of the level shifter stage, and a current mirror communicatively coupled to the level shifter and capable to shift the level of the decoder output, and further includes an output stage having switches, which are selectively turned on by an output signal from the decoder stage thus outputting a reference voltage.

Improved techniques for controlling current flow in an amplifier circuit provide steering of analog outputs of digital to analog converters and a full range of voltage output without necessitating a full range amplifier configuration and can be realized in a small space on an IC chip.

In accordance with the present invention complementary P-channel and N-channel input pairs of transistors form in an op amp. Two sets of such pairs are provided so that a transconductance range of each set of pairs is different. By combining the outputs of each of the sets of P-channel and N-channel pairs, a transconductance glitch is reduced in half.
