The present invention inspects packets to identify session initiation messages associated with select applications. A session initiation message may be any message used to initiate a communication session with another communication client. Once a session initiation message from a select application is identified, the intended communication session may be identified, monitored, prevented, or otherwise processed in a predefined manner. These select applications may be illicit applications from which communication sessions are actually or potentially unlawful or otherwise improper. The illicit communication sessions that the present invention seeks to control may be used for voice communications as well as for transferring data and facilitating application collaboration, such as is used in video conferencing or file sharing. The session initiation messages need not be received directly from the originating communication client for inspection. Packet inspections may take place at any location, such as aggregation points throughout the packet networks.

The present invention provides a biofeedback system and method for the purpose of allowing a human subject to consciously synchronize one's rhythm of breathing with one's natural heart rhythm for purposes of maximizing coherence of one's heart rate variability pattern and consequent enhancement of physiological/psychological well being. It accomplishes this by facilitating a biofeedback signal that indicates to the human subject precisely when to inhale and exhale such that the breathing cycle will achieve a high degree of alignment with the natural heart rate cycle. It also specifies an instructive method for bringing a human subject to an adequately coherent heart rate variability pattern such that the preferred embodiment of the invention can be applied.

Method and system for consciously synchronizing the breathing cycle with the natural heart rate cycle

In a multi-service communication environment, the present invention determines packet length criteria and provides the packet length criteria to access nodes for a network. The packet length criteria identify a packet length at which packets for delivery over the network are too long. Packets that are too long are disassembled and used to create shorter packets. The shorter packets and original packets that were not too long are then forwarded over the network. At the other end of the network, the original and shorter packets are received, wherein the shorter packets are used to recreate the original packets that were deemed too long for transmission by the packet length criteria. In addition to the packet length criteria, transmission priority criteria may be determined and used to prioritize the transmission of packets, including original packets or those packets that were shortened, for delivery over the network.

The invention consists of a broad method of presenting audible and visual cues for synchronizing the breathing cycle with an external timing reference for purposes of synchronizing the heart rate variability cycle with the breathing cycle, thereby achieving coherence of the heart rate variability cycle. The present invention specifies a method and system for assessing breathing effectiveness via dynamic assessment of respiratory sinus arrhythmia and the consequent arterial pressure wave using the oscillometric measurement technique. Arterial pressure wave peak pressure, valley pressure, amplitude, and rate are characterized and displayed for diagnostic and remedial purposes. The dynamic change in respiratory sinus arrhythmia and resultant arterial pressure wave is visually presented in real time as user biofeedback. A respiratory sinus arrhythmia generator generates varying frequencies to which the user synchronizes their breathing cycle for purposes of increasing arterial pressure wave amplitude with a consequent increase in breathing depth and decrease in breathing frequency. An instructive method in the application of the present invention is also specified.

Method and system for assessing breathing effectiveness via assessment of the dynamic arterial pressure wave using the oscillometric measurement technique

A system comprising a switching entity disposed between healthcare data processing resources and non-healthcare data processing resources. The switching entity is capable of operation in a first state in which an end user device is communicatively coupled to the healthcare data processing resources to support a healthcare session and a second state in which the end user device is communicatively coupled to the non-healthcare data processing resources to support a non-healthcare session. If the authentication request message is received while the switching entity is operating in the second state and a particular non-healthcare session is in progress, and the selected authentication entity is the healthcare authentication entity, initiating a memory purge at the end user device. Attacks on the healthcare data processing resources, both from the non-healthcare resources directly and via the end user device, are thus prevented.

The present invention delivers both voice and real-time communications over telephony infrastructure. The telephony infrastructure will effectively couple a DSL server in a local telephony exchange to telephony terminals and DSL modems at any number of user locations. Each DSL modem will be coupled to a computing device, such as a personal computer, that is capable of facilitating real-time communications. The DSL server is directly or indirectly coupled to a packet network. In addition to being coupled to the DSL server, telephony cabling at the local telephony exchange is also coupled to a telephony switch to support circuit-switched voice communications. As such, circuit-switched voice sessions may be established via the telephony switch with the telephony terminal over the same telephony cabling. Real-time communications may be provided over the telephony cabling using DSL service between the DSL modem and the DSL server.

The present invention provides a service node capable of coordinating call processing for incoming calls intended for any one of multiple telephony devices of a given entity, such as a business or individual user. Switching devices, such as traditional telephony switches or internetworked gateways controlling call routing, are configured to interact with the service node to determine how to handle incoming calls to the telephony devices that they serve. Through a variety of techniques, the entity can dynamically instruct the service node how to route incoming calls, and preferably, upon putting those instructions into effect, the service node will send an alert to the entity. The instructions are used by the service node to create call processing rules for the switching devices to apply to an incoming call intended for any of the entity's telephony devices.

An asynchronous transfer mode infrastructure is integrated with the communications network. The asynchronous transfer mode infrastructure is composed of an asynchronous transfer mode fabric and asynchronous transfer mode gateway. Wireless and wireline data are linked to the communications network via the asynchronous transfer mode infrastructure, such that all wireless and wireline data transactions within the communications network are processed independently of any switching devices present within the communications network. Wireless and wireline data is transmitted to and from the communications network via a network access function that allows wireless and wireline data to flow to and from the communications network. The wireless and wireline data is converted within the network access function in response to transmittal of the wireless and wireline data to the network access function. The wireless and wireline data is then transferred to the asynchronous transfer mode infrastructure from the network access function.

An ATM edge switch incorporating wireless and wireline voice and data functions is utilized to provide an integrating point for wireless and wireline communications. Method and system for integration of ATM edge switch with access device

As a telecommunications device goes off-hook a simultaneous connection is made to a local exchange and a data network removing the necessity to dial, or input numbers to access the data network. Upon connection to the local data network, a modem tone is returned to the telecom device. Connection to the local exchange causes a dial tone to be returned to the DSLAM in the local change. The device receives the modem tone, the dial tone is blocked by the DSLAM and a data communication session begins. If the device transmits DTMF signals within 20 seconds, the call reverts to a standard switched call, dropping the connection with the local data network. If no DTMF signals are sent within 20 seconds, the DSLAM releases the connection with the local Exchange and the data communications session continues.
