Examples disclosed herein relate to computer system managements. Some of the examples disclosed herein enable identifying properties of a computer system and adjusting a degree of manageability of the computer system based on the properties of the computer system.

Computer system managements

According to an example, memory-driven OOB management may include OOB management of a computing node of a plurality of computing nodes. The OOB management may be executed independent of an OS of the computing node. A memory fabric may be used to provide for shared access to a plurality of NVM nodes by the plurality of computing nodes.

Memory-driven out-of-band management

An information technology (IT) equipment positioning system comprises a plurality of wireless transponders distributed in multiple locations in the data center and a controller. The controller is adapted to operate the transponders using triangulation to identify and detect positioning according to three-dimensional coordinates for wireless-tagged IT equipment located in the data center.

A system includes a first physical chassis comprising a first chassis management unit ('CMU'). The first CMU is configured to communicate with a second CMU in an additional physical chassis. The first CMU is also configured to communicate for the first physical chassis and the additional physical chassis as one logical chassis.

Thinning operating systems can include monitoring a number of functionalities of an operating system, the number of functionalities of the operating system being provided by a number of computing components loaded thereon. Thinning operating systems can include automatically identifying an undesired functionality of the number of functionalities during runtime and removing from the operating system at least one of the number of computing components providing the undesired functionality as a result of the automatic identification to thin the OS.

Systems, methods and computing components are provided for dynamically reallocating a plurality of computing components among one or more logical partitions. A first computing component that is allocated to a first partition may have a management processor. A second computing component may be allocated to a second partition. The management processor of the first computing component may be configured to reallocate the first computing component to a third partition without affecting the second computing component.

Systems, methods and portable devices are provided for interconnecting one or more computing modules within an enclosure together to form an integrated system. A portable device may include a communication interface configured to be removably coupled to each computing module for interconnecting them together to form the integrated system. A portable device may also include memory configured to store an integrated system personality that serves as a point of authority for each computing module of the integrated system. The integrated system personality may include an identifier of the integrated system.

Systems, methods and computing components are provided for allocating a plurality of computing components among one or more logical partitions. Each of the plurality of computing components may have a management processor that is configured to assume a role among management processors of a partition. Each management processor may then cooperate with other management processors of the partition to control resources of the partition.

A computer system includes software running on a hardware platform. The hardware platform provides a platform manager having an user interface that is independent of that for a mission operating system running on said platform. The platform manager issues platform requests for power-setting adjustments. The software includes a mission operating system with a power controller incorporated in or running on the mission operating system. The power controller adjusts power settings for hardware devices at least in part as a function of the platform requests.

A service processor for a server system includes an event log that, once full, stores recent events by overwriting events of intermediate age so that the information required to diagnose both cascade errors and hangs are preserved. This contrasts with bottom-up buffers that discard recent events when full and with circular buffers that discard the oldest events when full. The event log can be reset by moving an exception region, that is, a region that is not overwritten by recent events. Alternatively, a partial reset can initialize an exception region (e.g., a bottom-up sublog), while a circular region or sublog continues to operate without being reset.
