In a general aspect, a method for determining a location of motion detected by wireless communication devices in a wireless communication network includes obtaining motion data associated with a first time frame. The motion data includes a set of motion indicator values. The method also includes generating a first probability vector based on the set of motion indicator values and obtaining a second probability vector generated from motion data associated with a prior time frame. The method additionally includes obtaining a transition probability matrix that includes transition values and non-transition values. The method further includes determining, by operation of a data processing apparatus, a location of the motion detected from the wireless signals exchanged during the first time frame.

Determining a location of motion detected from wireless signals

In a general aspect, a motion detection system detects gestures (e.g., human gestures) and initiates actions in response to the detected gestures. In some aspects, channel information is obtained based on wireless signals transmitted through a space by one or more wireless communication devices. A gesture recognition engine analyzes the channel information to detect a gesture (e.g., a predetermined gesture sequence) in the space. An action to be initiated in response to the detected gesture is identified. An instruction to perform the action is sent to a network-connected device associated with the space.

Recognizing gestures based on wireless signals

In a general aspect, a method is presented for determining a motion zone for a location of motion detected by wireless signals. In some aspects, the method includes obtaining a time series of statistical parameters derived from sets of channel response data. The method also includes identifying time intervals in the time series of statistical parameters, each time interval associated with a respective motion zone in the space. The method additionally includes determining, by analyzing multiple time windows within each of the time intervals, ranges of motion-zone parameters associated with each respective motion zone. The method further includes storing, in a database of a motion detection system, the ranges of motion-zone parameters for the respective motion zones. The ranges of motion-zone parameters are used to identify one of the motion zones based on a motion event detected by the motion detection system.

Determining a motion zone for a location of motion detected by wireless signals

In a general aspect, a method for determining a location of motion detected by wireless communication devices in a wireless communication network includes obtaining a set of motion indicator values associated with a prior time frame. The method also includes generating a prior probability vector based on the set of motion indicator values and comprising values for wireless communication devices connected to the wireless communication network during the prior time frame. The method additionally includes selecting the prior probability vector or one of a plurality of initialization probability vectors based on the set of motion indicator values, a configuration of the wireless communication network, or both. The method further includes using the selected probability vector and a set of motion indicators associated a second, subsequent time frame to identify a location associated with motion that occurred during the subsequent time frame.

Initializing probability vectors for determining a location of motion detected from wireless signals

In a general aspect, an offline system detects new motion zones for a motion detection system. In some examples, observed channel response data is obtained from a motion detection system. The observed channel response data is associated with a plurality of subcarriers for each wireless link over a period of time. Estimated channel response data is generated for each wireless link. Transitions between zones of activity are identified in the estimated channel response data for each of the plurality of subcarriers for each wireless link. A new motion zone of the motion detection system is detected based on the estimated channel response data and the identified transitions.

Offline tuning system for detecting new motion zones in a motion detection system

In a general aspect, a method for determining a location of motion detected by wireless communication devices in a wireless communication network includes obtaining motion data associated with a first time frame. The method also includes identifying a first wireless link, of a plurality of wireless links, based on a magnitude of a motion indicator value associated with the first wireless link relative to the other motion indicator values in a set of motion indicator values. The method additionally includes generating a first probability vector based on a predetermined map and the first wireless link and obtaining a second probability vector generated from motion data associated with a prior time frame. The method further includes determining, by operation of a data processing apparatus, a location of motion detected from wireless signals exchanged during the first time frame.

Determining a location of motion detected from wireless signals based on prior probability

In a general aspect, a method is presented for determining a motion-zone confidence. In some aspects, the method includes obtaining, from a database of a motion detection system, ranges of motion-zone parameters associated with respective motion zones in a space between wireless communication devices. The method also includes analyzing the ranges of motion-zone parameters to identify, for one or more of the motion zones, overlapping ranges of motion-zone parameters and non-overlapping parameter ranges of motion-zone parameters. The method additionally includes storing, in the database of the motion detection system, the overlapping and non-overlapping ranges of motion-zone parameters. The overlapping and non-overlapping ranges of motion-zone parameters are used to identify one of the motion zones based on a motion event detected by the motion detection system.

Determining a confidence for a motion zone identified as a location of motion for motion detected by wireless signals

In a general aspect, a method for determining a location of motion detected by wireless communication devices in a wireless communication network includes obtaining a set of motion indicator values associated with a time frame. The set of motion indicator values indicates motion detected from wireless links during the time frame, each motion indicator value associated with a respective wireless link. The method also includes identifying a subset of the wireless links based on a magnitude of their respective motion indicator values relative to other motion indicator values in the set of motion indicator values. The method additionally includes generating count values for the wireless communication devices connected to the wireless communication network during the time frame. The method further includes generating a probability vector based on the count values and comprising values for the connected wireless communication devices.

Determining a location of motion detected from wireless signals based on wireless link counting

In a general aspect, a method for determining motion zones in a space traversed by wireless signals. In some aspects, the method includes obtaining, over a time frame, sets of channel response data based on wireless signals communicated over wireless links through a space between wireless communication devices. A time series of statistical parameters is generated for each wireless link based on a respective set of channel response data. The method additionally includes determining a plurality of motion zones in the space based on changes in the time series of statistical parameters for each wireless link. Sets of motion-zone parameters are generated that characterize respective motion zones of the plurality of motion zones. The method further includes storing, in a database of a motion detection system, the plurality of motion zones and sets of motion-zone parameters. The sets of motion-zone parameters are used to identify one of the plurality of motion zones based on a motion event detected by the motion detection system.

Determining motion zones in a space traversed by wireless signals

In a general aspect, detected motion is localized based on channel response characteristics. In some aspects, channel responses based on wireless signals transmitted through a space between wireless communication devices are obtained. A motion detection process is executed to detect motion of an object in the space based on the channel responses, and the channel responses are analyzed to identify a location of the detected motion within one of a plurality of regions within the space.

Motion localization based on channel response characteristics

In a general aspect, motion is detected based on statistical parameters of received wireless signals. In some aspects, signals are obtained. The signals are based on wireless signals transmitted through a space and received at a wireless communication device. Values of a set of statistical parameters are computed for each signal, and filtered values are obtained by applying a filter to the values of the statistical parameters. The filter includes parameters based on a signal quality analysis of the wireless signals. A motion detection process is executed to determine, based on the filtered values, whether an object moved in the space.
