A system and a method for a deployable awning that detects impending storms or other weather events and automatically deploys from a structure to extend out and cover vehicles to protect them from damage due to the storm or other weather event. In one embodiment, a method includes determining that an activating event has occurred. The activating event includes a storm or other weather event. Upon determining that the activating event has occurred, the method includes automatically deploying an awning from a stored configuration inside an awning housing to a deployed configuration such that the awning covers a coverage area of a ground surface adjacent to a location where the awning housing is mounted.

Systems and methods for mitigating damage caused by hail storms to self-driving motor-vehicles. When a self-driving motor vehicle determines or learns that a hail storm or other severe weather event may be approaching, it may seek cover under a protective structure or some other location where it might not be as exposed to the severe weather event. Depending upon the availability of suitable shelters, the self-driving motor vehicle might, for example, obtain a list of such possible shelters and apply certain factors to develop a priority list as to which shelters to seek. The self-driving motor vehicle may then drive itself to the location and remain there at least for the duration of the hail storm or other event. In some cases, the self-driving motor vehicle may evaluate the adequacy of the protective structure or other location, and may decide to seek a better protective structure or location.

A method and system for using a vehicle camera to capture visual information for a home security system is described. In one embodiment, the method includes detecting a trigger event to activate at least one home security camera of a home security system of a dwelling. Systems and methods container for the protection of exterior surfaces of buildings and other outdoor structures are disclosed. The proposed systems are configured to offer a mesh-based covering that can be installed on surfaces such as roofs to safeguard the exterior surface from damage caused by hailstorms or other debris. The mesh covering can be colored to match the coloring of the roof surface and/or may be substantially transparent or comprise a material thin enough to remain imperceptible when viewed from a distance. Consumers can order the mesh material to match the appearance type of their homes. The mesh covering can be spaced apart from the roof surface to ensure the impact of hail does not affect the roof.

This disclosure relates to facilitating vehicle incident communications. In one use case, a mobile device may detect a vehicular accident and determine one or more contacts to notify about the vehicular accident. An occupant of the vehicle may be prompted, via a user interface of the mobile device, to confirm or cancel a proposed communication to the contact(s). Upon confirmation of the proposed confirmation, the communication to the contact(s) may be transmitted.
