Described is an energy curable ink for use in the production of layered composites the ink comprising 3 to 50% by weight of aminoacrylate as defined herein, 5 to 60% by weight of hydroxyl functional acrylate monomer and wherein the non-volatile content of the ink is not less than 45% by weight. Also described is a layered composite having a layer of the energy curable ink on a substrate and a process for producing a layered composite in which the energy curable ink according to the present invention is printed onto a substrate and then cured.

Energy curable inkjet inks for the production of layered composites

The present invention provides a method for printing energy-curable ink and coating compositions that have good adhesion to substrates, good print quality, solvent and scratch resistance, and low potential for migration of uncured monomers. The method comprises the steps of printing the ink or coating onto a substrate; partially curing the printed ink or coating by irradiating with UV energy; optionally printing and partially UV curing additional ink layers printed on the first layer; and completing curing via exposure to electron beam radiation, wherein the EB cure dose is greater than or equal to 20 kGy, and the accelerating voltage is greater than or equal to 70 keV.

Process for electron beam curable inkjet formulations

Electron beam curable compositions including polyols, and any blend of ethylenically unsaturated monomers and oligomers. The polyols of the invention are preferably essentially free of any ethylenically unsaturated groups, have greater than one hydroxy group and preferably have boiling points in excess of 170&#xb0; C.

The compositions of the invention are particularly useful for the printing or coating of food packaging and may be applied via any printing or coating method, although inkjet printing is a preferred method.

The present invention is directed to a method for printing energy curable ink and coating compositions comprising high amounts of monofunctional monomers that exhibit both good adhesion to plastic substrates, and good solvent resistance. The method of the present invention employs electron beam curing of the ink and coating compositions, at accelerating voltages greater than or equal to 70 keV, and electron beam doses greater than or equal to 30 kGy, and preferably greater than or equal to 40 kGy.

Electron beam curable inkjet formulation with improved adhesion

The present invention provides a photoimageable composition comprising a polyamideimide resin, an aprotic solvent, and one or more nitrogen containing ethylenically unsaturated monomers. By addition of the nitrogen containing ethylenically unsaturated monomer, UV curable acrylates can be added to the composition, and the composition is stable. The compositions of the present invention can produce high resolution images that are flexible, hard, and have excellent resistance.

Printed circuit board inks

The present invention provides radiation-curable (UV-curable) inks and coatings for inkjet printing comprising an inert thermoplastic acrylic resin and multifunctional monomers. The inks and coatings can be applied in a single pass printing operation. Furthermore, the inks and coatings are suitable for the printing of food, pharmaceutical and other sensitive packaging materials, particularly of plastic materials. The acrylic polymer (or copolymer) preferably has a molecular weight of 10,000 g/mole, or less, and the ink comprises less than 5 wt % of any blend of monofunctional monomer. The inks and coatings of the invention are particularly suitable for curing by UV-LED radiation.

Radiation-curable inkjet inks and coatings

Provided are energy curable high-stretch inks and coatings for heat transfer labels. The inks and coatings include monofunctional monomers/oligomers, thermoplastic inert resins, and zero or a limited amount of multifunctional monomers/oligomers and exhibit good stretchability and surface resistance, such as scratch resistance and solvent (water, oil) resistance. Also provided are methods of using the high stretch inks in heat-transfer label (HTL) applications.

Disclosed is a composition such as a pigmented free radical UV-curable inkjet liquid composition for the printing of food packaging materials, which when cured in ambient air produces minimal contamination of the foodstuff. This composition uses non-polymeric photoinitiators having molecular weights less than 500 amu that migrate at levels below the specified SML (specific migration limit).

The present invention relates to curable liquid coverlay compositions comprising polyamideimide resins for use in curable compositions for use as protective coverlay coatings for metal clad laminate materials in electronic components, such as flexible circuit boards. Polyamideimide adhesives for printed circuit boards

Solvent-based, or water-based, coating compositions are disclosed having primary or secondary amine concentrations of greater than 1.0 mg KOH/g (coating) equivalent. These coatings, when applied over inks or other coatings, reduce the level of materials that cause odor or other contamination problems. These coatings when applied over radiation-cured inks and coatings reduce the level of odor and contamination resulting from uncured monomers and oligomers, and also of photoinitiators and their photodecomposition products.

Overprint varnishes reducing odor and contaminants

The acrylate monomers of the present invention, particularly o-phenyl phenoxyethyl acrylate, provide very fast curing, hard and solvent resistant digital printing inks, and yet are also still surprisingly flexible. These properties make for a technically superior alternative to the widely accepted very hard monomer isobornyl acrylate. O-phenyl phenoxyethylacrylate also has the additional benefit of being free from the strong odor associated with isobornyl acrylate.
