An integrated pressure regulator is provided with three stages configured to reduce an extreme tank pressure down to a typical working pressure. The regulator is configured to supply a steady working pressure until the tank pressure is reduced to little more than the working pressure itself. Stages of the pressure regulator are integrated into a body and arranged to minimize regulator mass and volume. A thermally-triggered pressure relief device may be included with a triggering time adapted to enhance the safety of smaller cylinders that may be used, e.g., in aerial applications.

Multi-function three-stage pressure regulator

A valve is disclosed with a clamp mechanism that accepts interchangeable outlet connections. The interchangeable outlook connections may have different sealing geometries, where different sealing geometries are specified to be used with different gases. For use with a particular gas, the valve may be configured with the interchangeable outlook connection with the sealing geometry that is appropriate for that gas.

Valve with interchangeable outlet connections for high purity gases

A valve for connection to a pressurized gas cylinder includes a housing including a gas cylinder aperture which is connectable to a gas cylinder, and a housing conduit which extends through the housing from the gas cylinder aperture to one or more inlet/outlet apertures so that the valve is capable of providing fluid communication between the gas cylinder through the housing conduit and the one or more inlet/outlet apertures. A flow control ball within the housing conduit is movable between open and closed positions. Ball seals have sealing surfaces corresponding to a shape of the flow control ball for substantially sealing the flow control ball in the housing conduit. Other features include components for mounting the ball seals though one of the inlet/outlet apertures; components for mounting a stem to the flow control ball including bearings; live ports; a tube which can be removably connectable from the rest of the housing; provision for receiving an EFV and/or a PRD in the valve housing; and at least one of the ball seals and stem bearings comprising polyetherimide or polyaryletherketone.

Gas cylinder valve

A fluid-flow control system for a valve comprises a valve body and a bi directional main flow passage between a first and second fluid areas. The shuttle piston having a first face in direct communication with the second area and a second face in communication therewith through a bleed orifice. The second face is alternately exposed to the first fluid area through a backpressure passage and second orifice which alters the pressure differential across the shuttle piston. A second valve such as a solenoid operates to either close the second orifice wherein the shuttle piston is operable under differential pressure between the first and second pressure areas, or to close the second orifice wherein the shuttle piston is operable under differential pressure between the second pressure area and the backpressure passage. Filters at the fluid inlet and outlets protect the sealing components therein.

Flow control system for a valve

An improved therapy for both clearing the blood of unwanted carbon monoxide and anaesthetic chemicals and for rapidly re-oxygenating blood suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning or smoke inhalation. It also includes a therapy delivery device for carbon dioxide and oxygen metering and mixing apparatus for gases under pressure particularly for respirators and medical devices which has a plurality of compressed gas supply lines which are connected to a mixing device for delivery into a demand regulator (respirator or face mask). It includes a gas selection device, an automatic shut off of the carbon dioxide, a purging system, metering of the gases and a mixing chamber to promote a homogeneous mixture of gases and sized for field use by emergency care operators. The therapy is a mixture of carbon dioxide and oxygen for promoting the rapid oxygenation of the patient's blood supply for cases of carbon monoxide poisoning, smoke inhalation or other cases where the blood oxygen level is low.

Treatment of carbon monoxide poisoning

An arrangement for passing an electrical signal between first and second areas includes a body disposable between the first and second areas and having an aperture. A first sleeve is at least partially disposed in the aperture and defines a first opening. A second sleeve is also at least partially disposed in the aperture and defines a second opening. The arrangement further includes an electrically conductive element having a first portion disposed in the first opening, and a second portion disposed in the second opening.

Electrical signal pass through arrangement

An improved electrically operated pilot-type, &ldquo;instant-on&rdquo; solenoid assembly for near-instantaneous control over the flow of compressed gas. The assembly may be applied in fuel systems for propulsion in vehicles using gaseous fuel. It includes a housing with inlet and outlet passages connected to a primary chamber where a primary piston is slidably mounted, a secondary chamber having a secondary piston slidably mounted within the chamber, a solenoid to produce translational movement of the pilot piston, and passageways linking the various components. When the solenoid is energized, the pilot piston is moved to permit fluid to flow from the primary to the pilot chamber, producing an increase in the differential pressure in the regions of the primary chamber. The differential pressure then forces the primary piston to move, exposing the outlet to fluid flow from the gas inlet.

A filter arrangement for use with a vessel containing pressurized fluid includes a body engageable with the vessel. The arrangement further includes a coalescing filter assembly supported by the body such that the filter assembly is disposable inside the vessel when the body is engaged with the vessel. In one embodiment of the filter arrangement, the coalescing filter assembly includes a housing having a cavity, a coalescing filter disposed in the cavity for removing entrained liquid from the fluid, and a drain device in fluid communication with the cavity for draining the liquid removed by the coalescing filter from the cavity into the vessel.

A filter arrangement for use with a vessel that receives fluid includes a body engageable with the vessel. The body has an inlet port, an outlet port, a body cavity, a first fluid path disposed between the inlet port and body cavity, and a second fluid path disposed between the body cavity and the outlet port. A filter is disposed at least partially in the body cavity, and includes a filter cavity and filter media for filtering the fluid. A valve is associated with the body for allowing the fluid to flow into and out of the vessel. When the fluid flows into the vessel, the fluid flows through the filter cavity and along the first fluid path without flowing through the filter media. When the fluid flows out of the vessel, the fluid flows along the first fluid path, through the filter media and along the second fluid path.

Filter arrangement

An arrangement is provided for passing an electrical signal between a first area having a first pressure, and a second area having a second pressure, wherein the first pressure is normally greater than the second pressure. The arrangement includes a body disposable between the first and second areas. The body has a first surface disposable adjacent the first area, and an aperture extending from the first surface. A sleeve is non-threadingly engaged with the body and defines a passage. The sleeve further has a first portion disposed adjacent the first surface, and a second portion disposed in the aperture. The arrangement further includes an electrically conductive element disposed at least partially in the passage. When the sleeve is exposed to the first pressure, the first portion is urged toward the first surface of the body.

Electric signal pass through arrangement

A regulator for regulating outlet pressure of a fluid supplied to the regulator from a fluid source includes a body having an inlet, and a pressure regulating chamber disposed in the body. A high pressure fluid circuit extends between the inlet and the pressure regulating chamber for transmitting the fluid from the inlet to the pressure regulating chamber. The high pressure fluid circuit includes at least two longitudinally extending high pressure passages in fluid communication with each other. One longitudinally extending high pressure passage transmits the fluid in a first direction, and another longitudinally extending high pressure passage transmits the fluid in a second direction different than the first direction.

Pressure regulator

A digital gas metering system includes inlet and outlet manifolds, a plurality of conduits each extending between the inlet manifold and the outlet manifold, and a solenoid-operated valve in each conduit. At least one of the valves is a tri-stable valve. Each tri-stable valve has a highest flow setting, a lowest flow setting, and an intermediate flow setting. The preferred embodiment utilizes at least two tri-stable valves, and these have respective highest flow settings which form a geometric progression in which each term is substantially triple the preceding term.

Digital gas metering system using tri-stable and bi-stable solenoids

A tri-stable, solenoid-operated valve defines an internal chamber communicating with an outlet passageway and an inlet passageway, with a valve seat surrounding the outlet passageway. A first piston reciprocates toward and away from the valve seat and supports a closure adapted to close the valve when the first piston is in a first position, and to be spaced away from the valve when the first piston is in a second position. A second piston is mounted to the first piston and can reciprocate toward and away from the valve seat. The second piston has a portion which projects into the outlet causing partial occlusion when the first piston is in its second position and the second piston is in its first position. The portion of the second position causing the outlet to be occluded is substantially withdrawn when both pistons are at their respective second positions.

Tri-stable solenoid-operated valve

The present invention provides a supplementary pressure regulator that can be used with conventional single or multi-stage pressure regulators. It may also conveniently be used with a novel two stage balanced pressure regulator to form a three-stage vacuum demand pressure regulation system which may be used to regulate the pressure of compressed gases used as fuel in engines, such as natural gas used in natural gas powered vehicles. The pressure regulator of the present invention is a robust, compact, high flow, low droop, low pressure drop, low set-point drift and low creep regulator which is suitable for both OEM and after market use. It is particularly useful in mono-, bi-, and dual fuel engine applications.

Three stage gas pressure regulator

The present invention provides an improved two-stage pressure regulators for various compressed gases, and more particularly to pressure regulators used for gaseous fuels such as compressed or liquified natural gas. The pressure regulator of the present invention is a robust, compact, high flow, low droop, low pressure drop and low creep regulator which is suitable for both OEM and aftermarket use. It can be used by itself, or with an optional third stage to provide a three stage regulator such as the atmospheric (or zero pressure differential) types commonly used to regulate the fuel pressure for gaseous carburetion systems. It is particularly useful in mono-, bi-, and dual fuel engine applications. The two stage regulator of the present invention consists of a single base (the 'regulator base') upon which are mounted all of the components of the regulator, including the first and second stage regulator spring towers, a pressure relief valve (or PRV) spring tower, a filter assembly, a high pressure solenoid-activated valve, and an optional cylinder pressure sender. Channels provided in the base, for example by machining, permit the flow of coolant or other fluid through the base to control the temperature of the pressure regulator, and thus the outlet temperature of the gas flowing through it.
