A column of solvent containing foaming contaminants is provided. Gas is educted into the solvent in the column so as to generate foam in the column. The gas is educted into the column independently of the input flow of solvent into the solvent using a pumparound arrangement with the solvent. Foam generation continues so as to push the foam up in the column, wherein much of the solvent that is in the foam is allowed to drain back down into the column. The foam passes through concentrators which increase the residency time of the foam in the column to further dry the foam and to create larger bubbles. The drier foam is pushed out of the column and into a container. The foam is broken up into gas and the liquid foaming contaminants. The gas is recirculated for injection into the column even after foaming has stopped. The foaming contaminants are concentrated at the surface level of the solvent in the column. These contaminants are removed from the column. A liquid separator separates immiscible liquids, such as oil, from the solvent.

Method and apparatus for removing foaming contaminants from hydrocarbon processing solvents

The present invention relates to an apparatus for separating liquids and solids from a gas stream and simultaneously coalescing liquids from the gas stream. The apparatus includes a closed vessel having a longitudinally extending length, an initially open interior, an input port at an extent and an output port at an opposite extent thereof. There is a partition located within the vessel interior that divides the vessel interior into a first stage and a second stage. There is at least one opening in the partition. A separator/coalescer filter element is disposed within the vessel to sealingly extend from within the first stage through the opening into the second stage. There is a chevron-type seal or an O-ring seal between the filter element and the opening. The input port, vessel interior, separator/coalescer filter element and output port together define a flow passage within the apparatus, whereby the gas stream flows into the first stage through the input port and through the filter element hollow core, thereby filtering solids out of the gas stream, separating liquids from the gas stream, and pre-coalescing liquids in the gas stream. The gas stream then flows along the hollow core past the partition and back through the filter element into the second stage through a louvered impingement baffle, thereby coalescing liquids out of the gas stream, the gas stream then exiting the second stage through the outlet port. The louvered impingement baffle conditions the gas stream to create a scrubbing effect on any fine mist exiting the separator/coalescer filter element.

Multi-stage vessel and separator/coalescer filter element

A column of solvent containing foaming contaminants is provided. Gas is injected into the solvent in the column so as to generate foam in the column. Foam generation continues so as to push the foam up in the column, wherein much of the solvent that is in the foam is allowed to drain back down into the column. The drier foam is pushed out of the column and into a container. The foam is broken up into gas and the liquid foaming contaminants. The gas is vented and recirculated for injection into the column for foaming purposes. A portion of the liquid in the container is recirculated as a spray, which spray breaks up the foam. Another portion of the liquid in the container is recirculated into the column as reflux. Another portion of the liquid in the container is removed from the system in order to remove foaming contaminants therefrom.

Method and apparatus for removing foaming contaminants from hydrocarbon

Gas filter separator coalescer and multi-stage vessel

A homogeneous mixture of a base and a binder material or fiber that is compressed to form a mat or sheet of selected porosity. The binder material has at least a surface with a melting temperature lower than that of the base fiber. The sheet is formed into a selected geometric shape and thermally fused to bind the base fiber into a porous filter element. The preferred shape is a helically wound tube of plural sheets, each sheet being self-overlapped and compressed to overlap another sheet. Each sheet preferably heated and compressed individually and the sheets may be selected to have different porosities and densities. The binder fiber is selected from the group consisting of thermoplastic and resin, and the base fiber is selected from the group consisting of thermoplastic and natural.
