A fluid flow control system in which a vortex valve is combined in series with a non-fluidic control valve. The non-fluidic control valve is upstream of the vortex valve and is so arranged that small changes in its state control the operation of the vortex valve, which provides the major control over the flow of the fluid. Erosion in the non-fluidic valve due to abrasion or cavitation in the non-fluidic valve is thereby reduced.

Flow control system and method of operating a flow control system

Cavitation takes place in a fluid flow passing through a constriction, such as a reduced bore in a pipe, to release dissolved gases. The gases can be collected and the fluid can flow along a diffuser section to recover pressure. The constriction can be formed by the axial outlet part of a votex valve included in the flow line. Cavitation in the fluid can be regulated by the control fluid supplied to the vortex valve.

Fluid degassing

A fluidic diverter comprising a housing forming a chamber having an inlet at one end and two diverging outlets at the opposite end. An asymmetric configuration is produced within the chamber by axially spaced steps in opposing walls of the chamber and a single control port communicates with the chamber at a position associated with the step adjacent the inlet. In use and in the absence of a control at the control port, flow will emerge through the outlet at the side of the chamber associated with the control port. A fluidic pumping system includes a fluidic pump having the fluidic diverter in a delivery line of the pump.
