The porous silicon membrane includes silicon () with a first side () and a second opposing side (), a plurality of pores () extending entirely through the silicon from the first side to the second opposing side, each including shared walls (), at least one protrusion of silicon () protruding out and extending from the first side a distance (). The porous silicon membrane further includes a plurality of radiation sensitive quantum dots () in the pores and a quantum dot layer disposed on the first side and having a surface () and a thickness (), wherein the thickness is greater than the distance.

Quantum dot porous silicon membrane-based radiation detector

A radiation detector () includes a photovoltaic layer () with first and second opposing sides. The photovoltaic layer is configured to absorb first radiation at the first side and produce electrical charge. The detector further includes a porous silicon quantum dot layer () disposed at the second side of the photovoltaic layer and configured to receive second radiation and convert the received second radiation into an electrical signal indicative of an energy level of the received second radiation. The detector further includes an acquisition and communication layer () disposed adjacent to the porous silicon quantum dot layer and configured to receive the electrical signal and transmit the electrical signal to a device remote from the radiation detector. The detector further includes an energy storage layer () disposed adjacent to the acquisition and communication layer and configured to store the electrical charge and supply the stored electrical charge as operating power to the acquisition and communication layer.

Quantum dot radiation detector module with self-sustaining power

An imaging module () of an imaging system comprises a porous silicon membrane () with a first side (), a contact side () opposite the first side, columns of silicon () configured to extend from the first side to the contact side, and columnar holes () interlaced with the columns of silicon and configured to extend from the first side to the contact side. The imaging module further includes quantum dots () in the columnar holes. The imaging module further includes a metal pad () electrically coupled to the columns of silicon of the porous silicon membrane. The quantum dots in the columnar holes are electrically insulated from the metal pad. The imaging module further includes a substrate () with an electrically conductive pad () in electrical communication with the metal pad that defines a pixel.

A method of forming a particle-rod nanostructure is disclosed. The method comprises preparing a mixture comprising an inorganic nanoparticle and an organic molecule in a solvent. The method further comprises spin-coating the mixture to nucleate a crystal growth of the organic molecule on the inorganic nanoparticle deposited on a substrate, yielding the particle-rod nanostructure.
