A fluid reservoir for a penile implant device that includes a body portion having a sleeve from which a tube may extend. The body portion includes support structure positioned at an interior surface of the body portion near an orifice of the reservoir, which orifice leads to a fluid passage of the tube. The support structure may comprise a plurality of protrusions that are arranged around the orifice and that extend from a base portion of the body portion. The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a fluid reservoir for a penile implant device, which includes positioning a tube in a mold and injection molding a reservoir body onto the tube. More particularly, the method may include providing a mold, positioning a tube in the mold, injecting material into the mold, curing the material, and opening the mold to remove the reservoir body and tube assembly.

Methods of manufacturing fluid reservoirs for penile implant devices

The invention is directed to a medical device, particularly a penile prosthesis, that includes an implantable element and a reservoir. The implantable element is configured to be implanted within the pelvic region of a patient and is designed to be capable of inflation and deflation via fluid transfer to and from the element. The reservoir is coupled to the implantable element. The fluid is drawn from the reservoir for inflation of the implantable element and returned to the reservoir for the deflation. The reservoir is approximately one inch or less in depth. The minimal depth enables the fluid reservoir to be placed in front of the puborectalis muscle and behind the abdominal fascia without being seen on an external view of the patient.

Fluid reservoirs for penile implant devices and methods of manufacturing

A device for inserting a penile implant prosthesis through an incision into a corpus cavernosum is provided. The device includes an elongated, rigid body having a tip portion and tail portion, the tip portion including two prongs extending in a tip direction and a center portion between the two prongs, the prongs and center portion defining a notch adapted to engage and exert a force along the tip direction on a corner where a cylinder portion and a pump tubing of the prosthesis join each other, the prongs and center portion further defining a recess on one side of the center portion, the recess adapted to at least partially receive the cylinder portion or the pump tubing. The elongated body of the device defines a channel disposed along a substantial portion of the elongated body. The tail portion of the elongated body can be formed as a paddle adapted to be inserted between the cylinder and tissues near or at the incision to prevent puncturing of the cylinder when the incision is being sutured closed. The tail portion can also be a rounded tail end adapted to engage an end of the cylinder portion for pushing the cylinder portion into the corporal body. The tip portion can extend either in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the elongated body or form an angle with it, depending on the desired operation.

The present disclosure relates to penile implants that are easier to implant and reduce trauma because they provide for a smaller effective width during implantation, after implantation, or both. The present disclosure also provides for a shorter tubing junction while reducing effective width, further reducing trauma to the body. In a first aspect, the penile implant includes a tubing junction that is smaller in effective diameter while implanted in the body. The penile implant includes an axially extending cylinder having an inflation chamber and a rear tip. The cylinder also includes a tubing junction disposed between the inflation chamber and rear tip and extending from the cylinder. The tubing junction includes a bore in fluid communication with the inflation chamber. In one example, this bore is in the strain relief of the tubing junction. The bore is configured to include a compound curve. In another aspect, the penile implant includes a tubing junction that can assume a smaller effective diameter while being implanted into the body. The surgeon is able to press the tubing against the cylinder than the related art to reduce the effective area of the penile implant. This penile implant includes a cylinder having an inflation chamber and a rear tip. A tubing junction is disposed between the inflation chamber and the rear tip. The tubing junction includes a strain relief that extends from the cylinder and forms an acute area proximate the intersection of the cylinder and the strain relief. The acute area includes a keyhole.

The present disclosure is directed to an improved rear tip and rear tip extender where the rear tip securely attaches to a rear tip extender, even when slippery, and can avoid creating an irritating discontinuity in the profile. In a first aspect, the disclosure is directed to a penile implant having a cylinder with a rear tip. The rear tip includes a section having a generally smooth profile and a section having a connector end. A rear tip extender is adapted to fit over the section having the connector end. The rear tip extender includes a base, wherein the base fits over the rear tip at an interface. The rear tip is adapted to receive the rear tip extender with a ring in groove attachment. The base is aligned with the generally smooth profile of the rear tip without a protuberance at the interface. In a second aspect, the disclosure is directed to a penile implant including a cylinder having a rear tip. The cylinder includes a hydrophilic coating adapted to receive an antimicrobial solution. A rear tip extender is adapted to fit over the rear tip, and the rear tip and rear tip extender are connected together with a ring in groove attachment.
