A method can include a computing device receiving a drill plan for the borehole. The drill plan can include survey information providing formation information for one or more sections of the borehole. The method can include accessing a plurality of capability data for one or more bottom hole assemblies that may include: a neutral capability score, a steering capacity score, and a sliding ratio score. The method can include determining an overall score for each of the one or more bottom hole assemblies based at least in part on the neutral capability score, the steering capacity score, and the sliding ratio score. The method can include determining, by the computing device, a select bottom hole assembly of the one or more bottom hole assemblies based at least in part on the overall score. The method may include displaying the overall score and an identification of the select bottom hole assembly.

Methods and systems for bottom hole assembly selection

A drilling control system may access a drilling plan for a borehole comprising one or more of planned path for the borehole, drill string information, mud properties, drill bit properties, formation properties, and drill rig properties. The system may receive a plurality of operating parameters from a rig for the borehole including one or more of an observed toolface, a spindle setting, a rate of penetration, a differential pressure, and a weight-on-bit. The system may receive one or more propagation functions for the borehole determined by a model of the drill string. The system may determine one or more spindle changes or block speed changes based at least in part on the propagation functions and the plurality of operating parameters. The system may generate one or more predicted drill properties from a simulator using the one or more spindle changes or the one or more block speed changes.

Apparatus and methods for controlling drilling

Systems and methods of controlling drilling operations including Sliding With Indexing For Toolface (SWIFT) and Variable Weight Drilling (VWD) techniques. The methods and systems may include systems and devices for controlling the drilling operations, including systems and devices capable of automatically determining drilling parameters and setting operating parameters for drilling in a wellbore. The systems and methods may also determine a change in weight on bit, toolface, and/or differential pressure, determine a timeframe for a weight on bit to be delivered to the bit, and/or determine a spindle change to modify the toolface, and/or determine a change in differential pressure to be applied to modify toolface. The systems and methods may also send control signals to apply the spindle change and/or block velocity change and/or differential pressure change to correct any detected or anticipated toolface error.

Methods and systems for drilling

A method of modeling a wellbore path in an earth model, including receiving, from an electronic drilling recorder coupled to a bottom hole assembly (BHA), a set of BHA data, and a set of operating parameters data and receiving, a set of rock formation data; generating, a representation of a wellbore path in a first section of the earth model, by assessing the set of BHA data, the set of operating parameters data, the set of rock formation data, and a first set of parameters quantifying bit steerability, walk, coefficient of friction, and overgauge borehole information. The method includes modifying, based on data received from a survey corresponding to the first section of the earth model, the first set of parameters to generate a second set of parameters, and generating a future wellbore path in a second section of the earth model by applying the second set of parameters.
