The invention relates to a half-cell including an electrode formed of an electron collector containing one or more transition metals from groups 4 to 12 of the Period Table of the Elements, and of an electrochemically active material present on the surface of the electron collector in the form of a nanostructured conversion film containing nanoparticles having an average diameter of between 1 nm and 1000 nm. The electrochemically active material contains at least one compound of the transition metal or the transition metals present in the electron collector. The invention further includes a continuous film of a lithium-ion conductive, solid electrolyte that is water- and air-impermeable and that is deposited directly onto, covering totally, the surface of the nanostructured active material of the electrode. The continuous film of solid electrolyte having a thickness of between 1 &#x3bc;m and 50 &#x3bc;m.

The invention relates to an electrode comprising (a) an electron collector containing one or more transition metals from the groups 4 to 12 of the Periodic Classification of the Elements, and (b) a material that is electrochemically active, present on the surface of the electron collector in the form of a nano-structured conversion layer containing nano-particles or agglomerates of said nano-particles, wherein the nano-particles have a mean diameter of between 1 and 1000 nm, preferably between 10 and 300 nm, wherein said electrochemically active material contains at least one compound of the transition metal or transition metals present in the electron collector, characterized by the fact that the electrode is a textile formed by metallic wires or fibers. A lithium and vanadium oxide is described having the formula LiVO, wherein 0.1&#x2266;&#xd7;&#x2266;0.25. The oxide has a monoclinic crystalline structure and comprises non-agglomerated grains in the form of monocrystalline pellets having a length L of between 1 and 100 &#x3bc;m, a width W such that 4&#x3c;L/W&#x3c;100, and a thickness t such that 4 L/t&#x3c;100, with t&#x3c;W, the elongation axis of the pellets being axis b of the monoclinic cell. The oxide may be prepared by mixing the Li and V precursors, without grinding or compression, heating said mixture to 565&#xb0; C.-585&#xb0; C. and de-agglomerating the product obtained. The oxide is suitable for use as an active material for the positive electrode of a lithium battery.

The invention is applicable to lithium-polymer storage batteries.

In a method of charging several electrochemical cellsconnected in series, by a chargerwhich allows adjusting the voltage and the charging current, the voltage of each cell is detected permanently, and when a first cell reaches a predetermined threshold voltage, an increment of the charging current is applied to several cellsand simultaneously a shunt resistor of a current equivalent to the increment in the charging current of the several said cellsis connected in parallel to said first cell, and when each of the subsequent cells reaches the threshold voltage, a shunt resistor of a current equal to the increment in charging current of said several cellsis also connected in parallel to this cell.
