In a method for detecting people on a floor, at least three electrodes are integrated into the floor of the room that is to be monitored. Respective measurement axes are taken into account and associated with multiple pairs of electrodes integrated into the floor. The detection method includes the following steps: for each pair of electrodes, measuring a capacitance between the two electrodes of the pair; positioning a measurement point in a coordinate system defined by N of the measurement axes at coordinates provided by the capacitances measured for the pairs of electrodes respectively associated with the N measurement axes, where N is a number greater than 1; and detecting whether a person is lying on the floor according to a detection criterion that is function of the position of the measurement point in the coordinate system.

A smoke detector includes a drift chamber and an ionization chamber formed by a first electrode and a second electrode. Electric charges are generated by ionization of the air. The drift chamber separated from the ionization chamber by the second electrode. The smoke particles penetrates from the environment to a detector inside the drift chamber. The electrical potential of first electrode exceeds a critical electric potential value for generating a corona discharge in the vicinity of the first electrode. The second electrode has openings for the electric charges generated in the ionization chamber to move to the drift chamber. The electric potential of the second electrode allows the electric charges in the drift chamber to move from the second electrode to the third electrode. The electric field between the second and third electrodes is at least 100 times weaker than the electric field between the first and second electrodes.

Smoke detector

The smoke detector comprises a housing provided with one or more openings for the passage of smoke particles into an interior of the housing. A first electrode and a second electrode are disposed in the interior of the housing and generate an electric field by application of an electrical potential therebetween. A detection chamber is defined between the first electrode and the second electrode, the detection chamber comprising an ionization zone for the generation of charged particles by ionization of air in the vicinity of the second electrode and a drift zone for the movement of charged particles towards the first electrode. A measurement device measures an electrical parameter representative of the electrical current generated between the first electrode and the second electrode by the charged particles. The electrical potential between the first electrode and the second electrode is maintained at a first electrical potential level which is less than and in the vicinity of an electrical potential threshold level at which at corona phenomenon is generated such that in the absence of smoke no corona phenomenon is generated in the vicinity of the second electrode and in the presence of smoke a corona phenomenon is generated in the vicinity of the second electrode.
