An inflatable packer assembly comprising a first fixed sleeve fixed to a mandrel, a first sliding sleeve moveable along the mandrel, and a first inflatable member connected to the first fixed sleeve and the first sliding sleeve. A second sliding sleeve is moveable along the mandrel, and a second inflatable member is connected to the first sliding sleeve and the second sliding sleeve. A second fixed sleeve is fixed to the mandrel and slidably engages the second sliding sleeve. An inflation flowline disposed within the mandrel is in fluid communication with interiors of the first and second inflatable members for inflating the first and second inflatable members to isolate a portion of a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation. An injection flowline is disposed within the mandrel for injecting a fluid into the isolated wellbore portion at a high enough pressure to create microfractures in the subterranean formation.

Stress testing with inflatable packer assembly

A technique involves collecting formation fluids through a single packer having at least one drain located within the single packer. The single packer is designed with an outer structural layer that expands across an expansion zone to facilitate creation of a seal with a surrounding wellbore wall. An inflatable bladder can be used within the outer structural layer to cause expansion, and a seal can be disposed for cooperation with the outer structural layer to facilitate sealing engagement with the surrounding wellbore wall. One or more drain features are used to improve the sampling process and/or to facilitate flow through the drain over the life of the single packer.

Single packer system for fluid management in a wellbore

Downhole tool fluid flow control apparatus including a first fluid valve between a first portion of a first flowline and a second portion of a second flowline. The first and second flowlines are adjacent each other. A second fluid valve is between a second portion of the first flowline and a first portion of the second flowline. The first and second fluid valves are controllable to cause fluid flow between the first portion of the first flowline and the second portion of the second flowline or between the first portion of the second flowline and the second portion of the first flowline.

Fluid control modules for use with downhole tools

An apparatus includes a downhole tool for conveyance in a wellbore extending into a subterranean formation. The downhole tool includes a focused sampling probe that includes a piston movable between an open position and a closed position, an auxiliary filter coupled to the piston, and a scraper that interfaces with the auxiliary filter. Movement of the piston may cause the auxiliary filter to move against the scraper.

A method, according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure, for operating a positive displacement pump of a downhole tool comprises supplying a hydraulic pressure to the pump to actuate a two-stroke piston to displace fluid at least partially through the downhole tool; moving the piston in a first stroke direction; and reversing the direction of the piston upon completion of the first stroke of the piston. Completion of a stroke may comprise a head of the piston substantially abutting an end wall of a chamber of the pump.

An apparatus for testing a subterranean formation penetrated by a wellbore is disclosed. The apparatus has a tool with a sample flow line an inlet disposed with the tool and configured to establish fluid communication between the formation and the sample flow line to draw a fluid sample into the sample flow line. An active filter is positionable in the sample flow line and provides a filter flow route and a bypass flow route in the sample flow line.

A field joint for connecting a plurality of downhole tool modules is disclosed. The modules include a housing and an electrical line. A bulkhead is coupled to a first module that includes a first conduit aperture for receiving an electrical connector assembly. The first electrical connector assembly is releasably coupled to the exterior portion of the first module and includes a first connector having a first end adapted for electrical coupling to an electrical line. A connector block is coupled to the second module that includes a second conduit aperture positioned to substantially face the first conduit aperture when the first and second modules are joined. A second electrical connector is disposed in the second conduit aperture and is electrically coupled to an electrical line such that an electrical contact is established with a second end of the first connector when the first and second modules are joined.
