In a motor vehicle, a deflecting device () for an offset frontal collision for the motor vehicle is arranged in front of a front wheel (). In order, in the event of a collision, to safely pivot the front wheel inward, the deflecting device () forms a kinematic chain, the coupling link of which is a deflector () which, under the action of a frontal impact, is pivoted to the rear and is displaced toward the outside of the vehicle. The kinematic chain is a slider crank mechanism comprising a swinging arm () which is pivotable about a bearing (), a further bearing (), a sliding guide () and the coupling link () which is connected to the outer end of the swinging arm at a pivot point () and is guided in the further bearing ().

Deflecting device for an offset frontal collision for motor vehicles

A method for damage limitation in the event of an offset frontal collision between two motor vehicles, with a first signal which signals an imminent collision triggering the steerable front wheels () to turn inward in opposite directions, is to minimize the impact-induced yaw moment. To this end, the steerable wheels are moved back to the initial position again after the collision or if the collision has not taken place at all. To this end, two actuators () with an external power source are provided in the case of a vehicle which is equipped for this purpose, with each actuator being associated with a steerable wheel ().

A method for damage limitation in a partially overlapping frontal collision of two motor vehicles involves a signal indicating the start of a collision or an imminent collision causing the steerable front wheels () to be turned in such a manner that the wheel plane () of the collision-side wheel () intersects the vertical longitudinal central plane () of the vehicle at a point () in front of said vehicle. For this purpose, a connecting element () provides for the rapid build up of pressure in the steering device (-), and, in the event of a collision, the connecting element () acts on the steering device (-) in such a manner that at least the collision-side front wheel () is turned in a positive direction.
